Procurement Commercial Lead (Digital, Data and Tech)

This is a newly created role that will support Pearson Schools Qualifications and Workforce Skills Qualifications globally. This is a unique opportunity to join a significant and high-profile technology operation whilst driving transformation for the future and deliver an integrated digital business that supports teaching, learning and assessment and qualifications. You will be a top technical expert, and whilst schools, colleges and training providers are our primary customers, you will also need to develop the technology estate and operations to drive consumer value and support learners globally.

Responsible for:

Procurement of key suppliers and vendors (Pearson preferred and exceptions), category management, strategic supplier management and day-to-day performance management of suppliers including onboarding, invoicing and reconciliation with Finance teams. Ensuring we use the central Procurement Framework to secure best value and quality in supplier base

Skills, Knowledge and Experience:

  • Experience of managing large- scale compliant commercial procurement within a digital, data and tech operation
  • Experience of creating category strategies (Hosting, Hardware, Professional Services, Security, Software Licensing, Software Support and Maintenance) calling off centrally negotiated contracts where possible and leveraging volume discounts
  • Experience of selecting and managing wide range of digital, data and technology suppliers in dynamic, global market
  • Experience of day-to-day management of suppliers to perform to quality, time and cost criteria, using SLA and penalty clauses as necessary to drive performance
  • Experience of leading strategies for supplier-base simplification and contract aggregation to reduce the total cost of delivery
  • Experience of managing contracts register, timely renewals and agreeing best-value commercial agreements
  • Knowledge of the supplier markets in which Pearson operates
  • Ability to work alongside DDAT team managers and business leaders to secure best value in contracting and supplier performance
  • MCIPs (Member of Chartered Institute of Procurement) or equivalent desirable
