Location: Dagenham

Shift: Early / Late rotating shift (06:00-14:00 / 14:00-22:00)

Salary: £50,000-£60,000 plus shift uplift

On behalf of our client, a renowned automotive manufacturer, we are currently recruiting 2 Production Managers for their brand-new, state-of-the-art production facility in Dagenham.

Role Overview

The Production Manager is responsible to manage a team of circa 40 production operatives on a shift pattern within the Production area, running the entire operations output and quality.

Key Responsibilities

  • Monitor and drive team performance, quality, housekeeping, and adherence to Health & Safety and People Policies.
  • Conduct regular communication briefs, 121s, and manage team skills matrix and training needs.
  • Oversee payroll approval and handle confidential documents.
  • Ensure compliance with Health & Safety regulations, including COSHH, through risk assessments and managing accidents/near-misses.
  • Maintain high housekeeping standards, ensure compliance for audits, manage engineering concerns, and lead continuous improvement initiatives.
  • Drive production plans, manage metrics, ensure parts supply, prioritize tasks, and oversee new product introductions.
  • Monitor and improve performance issues, manage resources and overtime, and reduce non-conformance costs.
  • Deputize for the Production Manager and undertake other duties as required.

Skills & Experience

  • Proactive in task prioritization to meet production targets and maximize productivity.
  • Strong leadership skills with experience in lean/continuous improvement methodologies (e.g., Kaizen, 5 Why analysis).
  • Ability to use data to support decision-making, identify root causes, and implement effective responses.
  • ILM Level 3 or equivalent required; ideally with HSE certification (IOSH or NEBOSH).
  • Demonstrable experience managing teams of circa 30 in an automotive assembly setting; start-up experience is a plus.
  • Clear and professional communicator, capable of conducting team briefs and holding team members accountable.
  • Strong understanding of automotive quality standards and customer-focused quality practices.
  • Experience with ERP systems, people-centric databases and proficient in Excel/Microsoft Office for KPI reporting.
  • Relevant automotive assembly manufacturing experience with knowledge of process flow, value stream mapping, takt times, and lean manufacturing.
  • Ability to work under pressure, prioritize tasks, and take responsibility for meeting production targets.
