Job Description

Together we are Trusted to Serve Scotland.

Do you have a talent for stakeholder management? Can you make the decisions required to ensure successful delivery when needed? Do you have the mindset to lead our customers in ensuring compliance with best practice Programme Management?

We are looking for aProgramme Manager to join the Programme team.

We have a 12-month Fixed Term or secondment opportunity available.

What you'll do

The Programme team operate within Portfolio Management, ensuring the effective, efficient and resilient delivery of our services in Portfolio & Programme Intelligence, Programme Management, and Programme & Project Investment Governance & Assurance.

As our Programme Manager, you will have a key role in the regular review of a specific area of Capital Investment Programmes. Backed by evidence gathered from regular engagement with stakeholders across Scottish Water and our Delivery Vehicles, and data from our reporting, you will provide programme intelligence to senior stakeholders to help make the decisions needed to ensure effective, efficient and resilient delivery of our Programmes.

You'll need to be able to lead the recovery of Capital Investment Programmes when things don’t go to plan, agreeing the way forward while understanding the impact on investment, milestones and risk. Like our current Programme Managers, you’ll be a great communicator and problem solver.

The Programme Team have a strong focus on ‘doing our job, improving our job’. We want you to come in with fresh eyes and with feedback from our stakeholders across the business, to help continually build on the services we provide to our customers.

What you'll bring

You have a track record of managing stakeholders effectively. We engage with a variety of stakeholders from across the business and at all levels.

You will also have excellent communication skills: visually, verbally, and in writing. Programme Managers can be expected to present at and/or lead reviews in various forums to a wide variety of stakeholders.

You have an analytical mindset, and an ability to apply it to problem solving. You also have an eye for detail. There’s a real reputational risk if we don’t get things right, and our stakeholders won’t hesitate to challenge us.

You can talk about risk management, and you know how it’s applied within Project Management, as a minimum. You have good time management and prioritisation skills, the ability to juggle multiple tasks effectively.

Everything we do is underpinned by our best practice Capital Investment Framework. Ideally, you’re aware of this and would be able to lead others in ensuring compliance with this framework.

And now for the technical stuff. You are a wizard when it comes to MS Office, particularly Excel and PowerPoint. You also have experience of Unifier and Power BI. Being able to create reports is not a deal breaker, but we want you to be familiar with how to use it.

It’s not essential, but it helps if you have qualifications such as APM, MSP or MoP. If you’ve not been on these courses, we’ll add them to your development plan.

A full driving license is required.

Lots of our people have disabilities or neurodiverse conditions (including some of our recruiters!). As part of our commitment to developing a flourishing Scotland, it’s important that all our employees are Scottish taxpayers. If you join us, your home address will need to be in Scotland. If you don’t already live here, you'll need to commit to moving here within your first three months.
