The Company recently reached their seed funding and this is now a crucial & exciting time for the business as we look to appoint a Project and Procurement Manager.

This role is highly autonomous and will see you influence and pioneer a new class of renewable energy to help combat climate change.

The Role

This key role will be accountable for the development and implementation of successful sourcing strategies and managing the delivery of key components for the development of DRIFT’s energy generating vessels. Focusing on maximising opportunities to contribute to the successful growth of the DRIFT business. The role is also accountable for managing the portfolio of projects across the business, supporting smooth delivery and implementation into our operations. Primary OEM suppliers include Rig/sail systems, turbine/generators, hydrogen plant and shipyards.

Your Task

· Accountable for all procurement related activities including negotiating supplier contracts, preparation of contracts and tender management processes

· Proactively identifying opportunities for improvement and development of existing supplier relationships and services

· Working with teams across the business to identify suitable procurement solutions as required

3-Month Deliverables:

Review and Update Vessel Development Plan:

  • Documented review of current vessel development plan.
  • Proposed improvements and adjustments to the plan.
  • Assisted in the initial stages of plan implementation with vessel and business teams.

Supplier Relationship Review and Gap Analysis:

  • Assessed existing supplier relationships.
  • Identified gaps and weaknesses in the supplier network.

Supplier Expansion and Strengthening:

  • Reached out to new potential suppliers to fill identified gaps.
  • Strengthened relationships with existing suppliers.
  • Expanded supplier base in key supply regions (shipyards, vessel rigs, turbines, hydrogen systems).

RFI and RFP Document Production:

  • Produced Request for Information (RFI) and Request for Proposal (RFP) documents for specific items and suppliers to initiate procurement processes.

6-Month Deliverables:

Supplier and Contractor Relationship Management:

  • Proactively manage ongoing relationships with suppliers and contractors.
  • Ensured timely deliveries and quality standards are met.

Progress Monitoring and Plan Updates:

  • Monitored internal progress against defined milestones.
  • Updated vessel development plan based on progress and adjustments including input from Head of Vessel Design.

Risk Identification and Mitigation:

  • Identified internal and external risks impacting critical development paths.
  • Developed mitigation strategies to address identified risks.
  • Escalate appropriate identified risks with Head of Vessel Programme and other senior management.

Yard Relationships and Shortlisting:

  • Developed relationships with shipyards.
  • Established a shortlist of potential builders for formal tender processes.

12-Month Deliverables:

Vessel Build Plan Development:

  • Collaborated with chosen boatyard and team to finalise vessel build plan.
  • Documented build plan including timelines, resources, and milestones.

Build Contract Development and Negotiation:

  • Lead the development of the vessel build contract with the selected boatyard.
  • Negotiated terms and conditions ensuring alignment with project goals.
  • Delivery Risks Identification and Management:
  • Identified delivery risks associated with the build process.
  • Developed risk profiles and mitigation plans.

Support for Investor Due Diligence:

  • Provided necessary deliverables and documentation for Series A investors' due diligence review.
  • Ensured all documentation related to vessel development and build process is comprehensive and ready for investor scrutiny.

*Please note, this is a full-time, long-term role. This is not a fixed term contract.

Your Skills and Experience

Essential Skills & Experience:

  • 5+ years relevant experience within procurement and project management
  • Strong experience of negotiation, diplomacy and influencing skills
  • Strong experience of contract management
  • Significant experience of Project Management including delivery within timelines, critical path analysis of parallel workstreams and coordination of multi supplier deliverables.
  • Experience in developing Gantt charts, tracking and updating progress
  • A self-starter able to manage own workload

  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Diplomatic and negotiation skills
  • Experience of the marine and energy sectors
  • Experience in the engineering industry
  • Genuine interest in new technologies and a passion for the green economy and the development of sustainable technology.
  • High attention to detail
  • PRINCE2 or APM qualification
  • Specific Gantt chart software experience
  • Demonstrable experience of delivering projects in complex environments
  • Strong analytical and problem solving skills

This role will be based in the Bath / Bristol area and office based with the option to negotiate flexible working.
