J ob Title: Project (Program) Leader Salary Grade: £59,500 + (depending on experience) Location: Peterborough Benefits: 25 days annual leave. Up to 18% Bonus. Job Summary A position has become available within IPSD Medium Engines (C2.8 to C7.1) Product Management Team for a Project Leader (SG24). This role, based in Peterborough, will involve joining a team committed to meeting key corporate success factors, such as quality, cost, growth, and commercial performance. As we develop our future powertrain offerings, the role will necessitate significant supplier and customer collaboration throughout the NPI/NTI processes, with a heightened focus on systems integration across the Caterpillar enterprise. As a Project Leader, you will spearhead a range of global, business-critical projects. This role includes direct support to our pan-product platform teams and strategic management of our current powertrain offerings. You will oversee cost governance within IPSD Medium Engines and deliver multiple NSI/NMI and NPI programs, essential to our long-term success as a global company. Job Responsibilities and Duties: Through this role, the successful candidate will typically: Lead critical product related projects, following the corporate New Product Introduction and work group standard processes. Engage with multi-functional teams to ensure successful delivery of Project Objectives. Provide leadership for tactical and strategic projects that support our cross-platform needs (2.8l-7.1l). Work closely with the Product and Programme Managers to ensure that projects are aligned with platforms long term strategic requirements and our 5-to-10 year technology plan, in terms of volumes growth and technology evolution. Oversee creation of project plans and maintaining the plan schedule in support of Gateway / Customer introduction needs - ensuring programme financials, functional requirements, cost targets and Gateway commitments are met. Communicate programme status to the broader organisation, ensuring stakeholder alignment on progress and direction. Work cross platform with other members of the Product management team to ensure that all product requirements are understood and being met. Highlight issues before they become a problem by spotting patterns across platforms / products, owning resolution, as necessary. Support issue resolution to problems using structured and methodical approach to root cause. What You Will Do: Working for the Integrated Powertrain Product & Process Manager (Russ Seaton) you will support both current product requirements, future NPI / NTI needs and supporting pan-platform process and product development programmes. Coordinating with the businesses, sales, marketing, and platform groups to manage resources for each deliverable within a project. Driving project progress and costs; communicating status with stakeholders and participating functional areas; addressing and resolving problems. Influencing project staffing; motivating and developing project teams and team members. Communicating with customers and managing expectations; ensuring effective use of project controls and reporting mechanisms. Take the leading role in delivering key programme related tasks through our MCP (Master Control Plan) and other project control mechanisms. Delivery and management of product cost activities, future process development and reporting needs. Champion and deliver NPI / NTI process development and DeFacTo process improvement projects. Skills and Experience: Candidates will have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles: Requires a range of significant, and progressive experience from a mix of any of the following: Commercial, business, supply chain, purchase, engineering, and manufacturing skills. Cross-functional team and Program/Project management and leadership. High levels of prioritisation, communication, organisation and planning skills. Capability to engage and influence and work with others to deliver an offering. Candidates may have gained the following skills and experience through previous roles: 6Sigma / Lean Black Belt trained. Broad knowledge of company products and product applications. Knowledge of purchasing, supply chain and manufacturing applications. Planning: Contribute to operational, tactical, and strategic planning. Monitor and adapt plans to meet objectives, reporting variances, and developing tactical plans as needed. Products and Services Understand product and service linkages within the organization. Research target markets and delivery methods. Communicate key product features and assess unit product alternatives, costs, and pricing. Effective Communications: Reviews others' writing or presentations and provides feedback and coaching and adapts documents and presentations dependant on the intended audience. Demonstrates both empathy and assertiveness when communicating a need or defending a position. Communicates well downward, upward, and outward and maintains focus on the topic at hand, employing appropriate methods of persuasion when soliciting agreement. Problem Solving: Identifies and documents specific problems and resolution alternatives. Understands multiple stakeholder perspectives and develops risk / benefit analysis. Develops alternative techniques for assessing accuracy and relevance of information and helps to analyse risks and benefits of alternative approaches and obtain decision on resolution. Uses fact-finding techniques and diagnostic tools to identify problems. Process Partner / Customer Service Management Facilitates / drives the resolution of customer problems, issues, or concerns. Monitors / reports on delivery of what was promised. Leads cross functional team that may provide direct customer service, ensures identification of needs and priorities. Analyses problem trends and takes steps to avoid recurrence. Programme Management: Assists in detailed project plans including cost, schedule, and resource requirements. Participates in planning, estimating, and executing a set of projects, monitors project status reports. Tracks project progress and status to ensure they are in line with programme objectives.
