The Group Benefits Winning and Retaining Marketing Team is accountable for showcasing Manulife as the leading and most desirable carrier in the industry. The team brings to life the many ways Manulife helps clients reach their business goals while supporting the health of their employees.
The team’s sales proposals capture the imaginations of corporate clients. Prospective new clients are guided to see how Manulife Group Benefits will help them solve the challenges they face attracting and retaining top talent, while building a workforce that is well supported in the event of illness, injury, or accident. Current clients are retained through proposals that evolve our existing relationship and further align our mutual goals, values, and vision for the health of employees.
Reporting to the Marketing Director of Winning and Retaining business, the Group Benefits Proposal Manager’s mandate is to provide strategic direction, effectiveness, development of the proposal team and its processes, and implementing best practices and continuous improvements. Within this exciting, people leadership role, the successful candidate will offer proposal writing expertise with an extensive track record in responding to RFXs (RFPs, RFIs, RFOs etc.), consult and collaborate with multiple internal sales, account management, underwriting, design, and communication resources to create compelling
sales proposals that will optimize the opportunity to win/retain the business.
Essential Responsibilities:
People Leader Role:
Leads a team of five Proposal Consultants
Acts as the main point of contact for questions, training, support, and escalations
Facilitates one-on-one meetings with proposal consultants to discuss progress, development, and performance reviews
Assists in problem solving to ensure proposals are meeting accuracy and compliance standards
Assigns RFPs and monitors volumes
Leads in researching best practices and sharing with the team
Ensures all proposals are submitted on time and within 100% compliance
Supports Marketing Director with hiring procedures/decisions and performance management
Individual Responsibilities:
Drive sales & revenue growth through the completion of RFPs for new business and retention business
Reviews proposal work and provides ongoing feedback to Proposal Consultants
Identifies opportunities to enhance RFP content
Monitors the proposal process and quality of output – continually recommends efficiencies to drive success
Advises Proposal Consultants and sales teams on effective pursuit and messaging strategies
Acts as a back-up to Marketing Director when required
Completes high visibility/high premium proposals and consultant questionnaires as needed, that may require additional research, analysis, creativity, and judgment.
Coordinates all aspects of sales proposal document production process and ensures Proposal
Consultants follow it (i.e. RFP process, RFP style guide, etc.) to assure the overall quality meets firm standards
Collaborates with Distribution and Subject Matter Experts (SMEs) to determine areas for improvement and strategic approach for proposals
Conducts reporting & regular updates on behalf of RFP team
Proactive and visionary nature, strategizes for long-term objectives and goals of the team
Other duties, as assigned
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent relevant work experience, will be considered as an asset
Extensive experience in business development, proposal and/or technical writing
Strong persuasive and diplomacy skills with the ability to deal autonomously with internal stakeholders, includes sales team
Experience in Financial Services, and particularly Group Benefits an asset
Fluent in English and French (an asset)

large/complex concurrent projects within tight timeframes
Strong analytical, problem solving, strategic skills – ability to recognize issues, outline possible implications and provide solutions

Salary will vary depending on local market conditions, geography and relevant job-related factors such as knowledge, skills, qualifications, experience, and education/training.
