Planet Pharma is pleased to be recruiting for a Protein Biochemist to work on contract with a leading pharmaceutical.


You will be an experienced protein biochemist with expertise in the expression and purification of a variety of recombinant proteins including integral membrane proteins for use in structural studies.


Responsibilities

• Take a lead role in the expression and purification of recombinant proteins including multi-pass membrane proteins for structural studies.

• A key aspect of this position will be communication both within the protein group and across multiple disciplines (project teams, enzymologists, crystallographers and CADD groups) ensuring that information on work progress is relayed in a clear manner, highlighting any technical issues and providing potential solutions.

• Keep abreast of and implement technology developments within the area of protein expression and purification especially techniques involved in the production of recombinant proteins including multi-pass membrane proteins.


Profile

Candidates may be PhD holders or highly experienced Bachelor/MSc degree holders. Preference will be given to candidates who have spent time working within labs recognized for their expertise in the field of multi-pass membrane proteins.


We are looking for candidates who can demonstrate the following skill sets:


• Familiar with insect and mammalian cell expression systems.

• Fully independent in purification techniques (affinity chromatography, ion exchange, SEC and HIC).

• Extensive working knowledge of AKTA purification platforms and associated software.

• Comprehensive knowledge and experience with software used in manipulating protein and DNA sequences (VNTI) and molecular visualisation of proteins (PyMOL or similar).

• An excellent knowledge of the literature around the generation of recombinant proteins including multi-pass membrane proteins for structural studies.


In addition, all applicants must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills.
