POSITION SCOPE

Monitor and advise/control the refining process to ensure that the process is running efficiently and producing products that meet the product specifications. In the event of an out of specification product work with distribution and refining operations to minimise the impact on the customer.

DETAILED ROLES & RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Maintain a real time understanding of process quality from input to product output, advise on process inefficiencies and wherever possible actively prevent detrimental impact on final product quality.
  • Monitor performance of in-line instrumentation, report any failures to the relevant personnel and ensure the problems are rectified as soon as possible.
  • Sample and monitor key process points, report any poor performance and ensure action is taken to prevent impact on product and lower the efficiency.
  • Enter all required data into the relevant data system (SAP or Excel). Produce and publish required reports accurately and on time, ensuring all relevant details are effective communication maintained between shift and none shift personnel.
  • Investigate product failures and work with distribution and process teams to determine the best course of action to minimise the impact on the customer.
  • Responsibility for the issue of Certificates of Analysis.
  • Monitor and report site discharge (effluent, river water, dust, etc…). Support investigations into breaches of consent or uncontrolled losses to ensure they are identified and stopped as quickly as possible. Ensure the findings of investigations are communicated in full to prevent future occurrences.
  • Ensure laboratory instrumentation is clean and calibrated at all times and perform basic instrument maintenance.
  • Understand and work within safe systems such as TBRA and Incident reporting system.
  • Maintain a clean, tidy, and safe work area.
  • Good numeric and literacy skills.
  • Practical Laboratory experience.
  • Good understanding of the sugar refining process.
  • Computer literacy and the ability to enter data quickly and accurately.
  • Good interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to work unsupervised, prioritise workload, and multi-task.
     

ESSENTIAL WORK EXPERIENCES

  • Basic knowledge of food manufacturing processes.
  • Ability to interpret and evaluate data leading to decision making.
  • Experience of working according to the requirements of ISO & BRC standards.

ESSENTIAL EDUCATION REQUIREMENTS

  • A degree in science discipline is advantageous.

A levels or equivalent (including Maths, English or Chemistry)
