RWE Supply & Trading is a leading European energy trading house. With a strong international focus, we operate at the forefront of many wholesale markets for energy and energy-related raw materials in both physical and derivative forms. This includes power, gas, coal, freight, oil, weather derivatives, biomass, emissions certificates and renewable energies.

The Risk Methodology team provides oversight on Risk model development and model usage within RWE Supply & Trading (RWEST). The Risk specialists within ensure that models for risk and Profit and Loss reporting are fit for purpose and appropriately used. The activities in this role cover a wide variety of risk and pricing model related work globally, with an emphasis on trading in LNG, Oil and Coal related commodities.

Your responsibilities

  • Validate and verify models used for risk and P&L reporting
  • Review and validate algorithmic trading tools
  • Provide methodological input in new business initiatives
  • Develop, implement, and maintain risk management methodologies
  • Ensure governance and periodic validation of models used for risk and P&L methodologies
  • Support Risk teams on valuation, risk management, implementation and modelling issues
  • Provide expert advice to a broad audience

Your profile

  • Application of quantitative and qualitative analytical approaches to complex questions
  • Ability to communicate complex issues in an understandable manner to other business units
  • Ability to work under pressure and to tight deadlines in a trading environment, including challenging and defending methodologies used in the organisation
  • Understanding of commodity trading, trading lifecycle, physical asset trading instruments and/or financial asset trading instruments
  • Consistent delivery through personal drive and high personal standards
  • Building relationships and working collaboratively, preferably in a cross-cultural environment
  • Influencing, negotiating and managing relationships with key stakeholders
  • MSc/PhD or equivalent, in a quantitative subject such as Quantitative Finance, Theoretical Physics, Economics, Econometrics, Mathematics, or in a closely related field

Advantageous, but not a must

  • Knowledge of Financial Mathematics, quantitative modelling, numerical methodologies (e.g. Monte-Carlo), pricing models used in commodity trading, stress testing, Value-at-Risk concepts
  • Knowledge of programming software environments, e.g. Python
