Team Overview

Our R&D team are responsible for preparing R&D claims for clients of the Firm. Our client base ranges from high technology start-ups through to large multinational businesses. The team prepare a large number of claims for SME fintech and FS businesses, and the business is looking to recruit someone who has knowledge with IT and software technology to help assist in preparing these claims. This role would provide the ideal starting point to begin a career specialising in IT R&D. In addition, given the breadth of projects we support, this allows the team to have a varied client portfolio, and as such, we expect everyone to have hands-on experience of all aspects of preparing a claim. Therefore, this role offers the opportunity to build a broad-based career and to be the lead R&D specialist on many fabulous clients.

Role Overview

The core of this role is to prepare claims for the Firm’s tech and IT R&D tax client base and to liaise with clients to ensure their claims are prepared on time. However, this aspect of businesses has substantial room to grow, and we would expect someone joining the team to engage with the learning activities, to develop into a tech business. We are hoping that this role will provide the successful candidate with a springboard to build their career in this sector and to progress as a key member of the R&D tech team within Buzzacott.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensure that the R&D tax claims in the tech and IT sectors are prepared on time and meet our quality standards. Ensuring claims contain sufficient technical content to meet HMRC’s requirements that we are seeing from compliance check campaigns.
  • Engage with IT claim training and wider R&D tax credits training offered by the team and third parties. As part of this role, we would expect the candidate to have an interest in HMRC’s position in relation to IT claims, and to suggest how processes and templates could be adapted to reflect these changes.
  • Have a technical knowledge of IT and/or software development and to be able to incorporate this knowledge into the claim content.
  • Interest in staying up to date with software and technology.
  • Deliver technical and costing aspects of the IT claims within R&D tax team and seek to deliver this work within project budgets and KPIs.
  • Be an active team member and offer up suggestions and ideas.

Skills and Experience

Essential

  • Knowledge of software or information science technology through either degree course or further study activities.
  • Further degree in relevant subject obtained at Msc or Phd level.
  • Good writing skills and capable of applying analytical mindset to projects.
  • Communication skills, in particular an ability to discuss issues with senior staff.
  • Willingness to adapt claim processes and documentation to meet the ever-changing needs of clients and HMRC.
  • MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Outlook).
  • Problem solving skills; able to prioritise workload and be self-sufficient, a multi-tasker.
