Job summary We are excited to announce that due to recent Band 6 promotions we have an opening for 2x Band 5 Occupational Therapists to join the service providingOccupational Therapy assessment, intervention and discharge planning to a widerange of patients.You willhave the opportunity to experience 9 month rotations within the areas of Stroke, Complex Care (Critical Care andNeuro-rehabilitation), Frailty, Medicine, Surgery, Trauma, Elective Orthopaedics and Rheumatology. The Band 5 rotation process includes the opportunity for youto state your preference of clinical setting.Yourcaseload will have special emphasis on patients with acute illness or injuries,requiring assessment and treatment skills and the ability to discharge thepatients home or onto the most appropriate service; this includes workingwithin tight timeframes for patient discharges. Our out-patient rotations aimto achieve the best possible occupational outcomes for each individual.You will be supported to develop thenecessary skills to take a proactive role within the Occupational Therapy teamswithin your base hospital, with the ability to provide advice or cover on otherTrust sites as required. You will liaise with senior Occupational Therapists toensure the smooth and effective running of the Occupational Therapy service atan operational level on a daily basis. You will receive profession- specificBand 6 and Band 7 supervision, alongside an OT specific development structure. Main duties of the job Tohold an active caseload within your current rotation at Worcestershire RoyalHospital or Alexandra Hospital.Totake an active role within the referral system across OT services, providingaccurate feedback to Senior staff to allow the allocation of the caseload toeffect timely assessment and discharge.Toprovide advice/assistance to OT assistants and students carrying an acutecaseload.Tocontribute to effective team working within the OT Team on rotation and widerMDT.You will beworking with and supported by a very skilled work force and expected to workwithin a multi professional environment. This includes a Band 8a Clinical Practice and Education Lead OT who isinvolved in the Recruitment and ongoing development of the Band 5 OTs upon ourRotation scheme. The Band 5 rotation is being actively developed to createa programme of regular group CPD sessions, One-ones, opportunities for observedpractice sessions, all of which are designed toenhance your personal and clinical development. Job description Job responsibilities There will be 9 month rotations based at WorcestershireRoyal Hospital and the AlexandraHospital, Redditch and will offer clinical experience in the followingareas:Speciality Medicine:You will develop skillsin acute illness management; manual handling assessment and interventions;development of knowledge and experience around equipment provision; end of lifeand palliative care discharge planning.Acute InpatientStroke Ward:You will develop skills, knowledge and experience of acute stroke. You will workclosely with the MDT, following national guidelines in order to facilitatedischarge planning.General andVascular Surgery:You will developthe skills and knowledge to facilitatedischarge planning including fast paced discharges and be introduced tospecialist equipment provision, including wheelchairs for amputees. You willparticipate in a range of community visits to support discharge planning andliaison with community services.Trauma andOrthopaedicsYou will be enabled to developconfidence in administering assessments, including cognitive assessmentsfollowing acute traumatic brain injury. You will participate inaccess/community visits to support discharge planning. There is a strongemphasis on occupational focused assessments post-surgery.Complex Care:You will be working withpatients with a range of complex neurological conditions based on the medicalwards. You will be supported by skilled senior OTs to participate in cognitiveand mood assessments. There is the opportunity to develop skills in upper limbsplinting to support occupational performance.Frailty:You will develop skills, knowledge and experience in the specialistarea of Geriatric Elderly medicine, including person-centred Dementia care. Youwill have the opportunity to be involved with complex discharge planning, MDTworking and multi-factorial assessment and discharge planning.Rheumatology:You will develop the skills, knowledge and practice to be involved inthe assessment and treatment of rheumatological conditions that have an impacton occupational performance. This is an Out-patient OT Service supported byexperienced Senior OT staff. You will develop skills in upper limb splintingand gain experience of MDT working. Person Specification Knowledge & Skills Essential Evidence of recent acute hospital OT experience. Some knowledge of current best practice in OT. Understanding of professional ethics and their application in practice. Basic knowledge of health legislation and current practice. Basic knowledge of principles of clinical governance. Health, safety and risk awareness. Effective written and oral communication skills. Desirable Knowledge of Word/Excel Qualifications Essential Degree/Diploma in Occupational Therapy Active/Pending HCPC Registration Up to date professional Portfolio Desirable Membership with RCOT Experience Essential Evidence of recent experience within the NHS. Varied clinical placement experience. Evidence of being able to apply an analytical approach to a clinical situation. Experience of working within a Multi-disciplinary team. Experience of discharge planning. Desirable Evidence of recent acute hospital OT experience. Experience of acute discharge planning. Other Qualities Essential Flexible attitude to routine and non-routine tasks. Ability to support the practice of junior grades. Ability to work in a team and to be a positive influence within the team, when working in an acute system. Ability to utilise supervision proactively. Good interpersonal skills with staff across all grades. Evidence of willingness to learn and utilise new skills. Ability to reflect on and critically appraise own performance. Ability to undertake the manual handling aspects of the role on a daily basis (see job description) Ability to travel / work between sites and carry out home visits. Ability to be flexible around core hours. To be able to cope with health and safety issues relating to Occupational Therapy, dealing with bodily fluids.
