The appointment will be on UCL Grade 7. The salary range will be £33,686 – £40,716 per annum, inclusive of London Allowance.

This is a post within the Advanced Sequencing Facility (ASF), based at the Francis Crick Institute, London. The post holder will work as part of a team to provide specific sequencing on the TRACERx (TRAcking non-small cell lung Cancer Evolution through therapy (Rx)) study, led by Professor Charles Swanton. The position will involve sample processing, quality control, library preparation, and targeted next-generation sequencing using the study’s dedicated HiSeq4000 instrument in the ASF the laboratory. The post holder will also be expected to troubleshoot and use their own initiative to overcome problems that may occur.

The role will include, but not be limited to: developing new methods for sample preparation, sample processing, and high throughput sequence. The post holder will help in developing new protocols and importing and modifying published procedures for proof-of –principle experiments. The post holder may need to address technical problems and determine the methods to be used in very different research projects.

This post is currently funded until 31 March 2018.

The post holder should have extensive experience of working in a laboratory; extensive experience in the production/operation of NGS techniques and hardware with hands-on experience using the HiSeq and Ion Torrent systems. This individual will have proven laboratory bench skills and will use their scientific knowledge, expertise and broad practical molecular biology skills to provide the best ‘next generation’ sequencing, offer general support, help design the sequencing effort, and execute technology development experiments for large-scale genome analysis. The post holder will have an excellent understanding of DNA and RNA sequencing apparatus and techniques. This post will require cross training with other members of the ASF to allow cover of the facility as required.

The post also dictates that the individual keep detailed records to aid in the laboratory quality check procedures and work closely with the TRACERx Laboratory Manager. Therefore the post holder must have knowledge of Laboratory Information Management Systems (LIMS).
