About the Role:

We're seeking an imaginative and inspiring Theatre Director for Secret Cinema on a Fixed Term Contract (parental cover) basis. In this role, you will conceive, design, and deliver immersive live experiences that align with our commercial vision. The ideal candidate has substantial experience leading creative teams in the live entertainment, theatre, or experiential industry, with a proven track record of creating successful, memorable experiences for audiences and brands.

As Theatre Director, you’ll develop, hone, and execute captivating concepts that blend Secret Cinema’s practice with client goals. You’ll oversee the entire creative process, from initial conception to final delivery, ensuring artistic and technical excellence. Reporting directly to senior leadership, you will work closely with Producers, creative teams, and stakeholders to deliver unforgettable shows that meet both creative and commercial objectives.

You will work across a range of public-facing productions for Secret Cinema and TodayTix Live, alongside projects for Studio Secret Cinema, our brand experiences division.

This is a fantastic opportunity for a creative leader who is passionate about immersive entertainment, highly innovative, and committed to delivering high-quality experiences. If you thrive in a dynamic, fast-paced environment and are excited to be a part of pushing the boundaries of live entertainment, then we’d love to hear from you!

Please note: this is a parental cover contract position and qualified candidates must be based within commuting distance of London. The target start date for this position is mid-September with a 9 month cover. We encourage collaboration by working a minimum of 3 days per week in the office, while also offering flexibility for employees to choose where they work for the rest of the week. There will be periods during live projects where evening and weekend work will be required, as well as sustained periods in person or on site.

What You'll Do:

  • Lead R&D activities, ensuring stakeholder buy-in and making necessary revisions
  • Ensure cohesive support for the creative intent across all show elements
  • Produce design and content briefs for creative departments (Design, Technical, Specialists)
  • Lead the process of auditions and casting, directing performances during rehearsals, tech and live shows/events
  • Work with Producers to ensure feasibility within budget and time constraints
  • Coordinate creative vendors, contractors, and partners, managing complex relationships
  • Inspire and direct the creative team, fostering a collaborative environment

We're Looking for Someone With:

  • Substantial experience as a Lead Creative in live entertainment, theatre, or experiential industry, with a proven record of creative excellence
  • Demonstrated success in creating live brand and corporate activations
  • Strong storytelling skills with a deep understanding of narrative structure and character development
