Experience of providing direct support to children and families with a range of needs, including children and families who have special educational needs and disabilities. Knowledge of what works in parenting and family functioning, for example knowledge of parenting strategies, mental health promotion activities, etc. Working knowledge of key areas such as housing, benefits including DLA and PIP, education, EHCPS and school allocations, primary health care, etc. Able to prioritise a demanding workload, taking a consistent approach to responding to children, young people, their families and other professionals. A skilful communicator, able to convey important information to a range of different audiences which might include children and young people, parents, and professionals from a range of agencies. Excellent interpersonal skills, able to work alongside colleagues from different agencies and services, using a focus of improving outcomes for children and young people to work through any differences or conflicts between individuals or agencies.
