The team may also be asked to lead and / or support innovation projects The Principal Engineer CAD, Closures & Mechanisms is responsible for technical delivery to cost, quality & time for tasks and activities assigned to them by their module team line manager. Note that any engineer may be asked to work in a non-core module area as project needs dictate. The successful candidate therefore should be able to demonstrate a flexible approach. The Principal Engineer CAD, Closures & Mechanisms for this role will be able to demonstrate relevant engineering experience, gained from working on similar module area systems design & development in previous roles, with experience from concept to production. Candidate requirements include: CAD operation skills: Expectation for engineer to be able to create and manipulate geometry for primary communication of concepts / schemes. Expectation 95%-time utilisation for CAD geometry generation. Catia v5 operative skills; able to demonstrate high technical competence in generation of 3D geometry & sectional data. Catia v6 experience, is desirable. Experience of using TCUA (Team Centre) & PLM Experience of prior delivery of the designated module systems in the automotive sector Evidence of engineering skills, including ability to manage & resolve engineering issues Evidence of working effectively with cross-functional teams to achieve results Compliance with company procedures & quality standards Involvement in process improvements Main Activities & Tasks Support the BIW & Closures Lead Engineer in all day-to-day activities. Support other activities as required. Lead the development of 2D and 3D models for closure & mechanism engineering. Store and release data using TCUA and PLM. Engineering BoM development. Cost & weight pack development. PMXU generation – Part identification in BoM for unique or carryover status. Design surface (CAS) feasibility FC-checks. Provide feasibility advice & guidance. Engineering hard-point generation. Implement recommendations where appropriate to create a right first-time release. Participate in cross functional integration reviews for components & systems, considering technical application, form, function & harmonisation of the execution. Drive closure of issues & establish the cost, weight & timing impacts. Support the module deliverables through to the programme required gateway. Support the generation / development of design rules & guidelines. Engineering Release activity in project support (UPV0 & UPV1) Closures and mechanisms systems to include: o Side closures Tailgate o Hood Drop-glass mechanisms o Drop-glass o Seals o Latches o Handles IRVM Roof systems – fixed glazed & panoramic Wiper systems o Roof rails Excellent package and opportunity.
