Position Overview:

As the Senior Commercial Manager for our Rail Division, you will play a pivotal role in overseeing all commercial aspects of our national portfolio of projects, driving the division's success and ensuring profitability. Reporting directly to the Divisional Commercial Director, you will lead a team and collaborate closely with various stakeholders to ensure the effective management of contracts from pre-contract negotiations to project delivery and handback.

Key Responsibilities:
Oversee all commercial aspects of the Rail Division's projects, ensuring adherence to budgets, timelines, and quality standards.
Manage a national portfolio of projects with an annual turnover of approximately £50 million.
Lead and manage a business unit within the division, ensuring alignment with company goals and strategies.
Demonstrate strong commercial competencies in negotiating and managing contracts, particularly with NEC, JCT, and ICE forms of contract.
Provide leadership and guidance to a team of 3 to 4 direct reports, as well as overseeing a wider commercial team of up to 30 individuals.
Collaborate with project teams to ensure effective pre-contract preparations, including risk assessments, tendering, and contract negotiations.
Drive the implementation of commercial strategies to optimize project outcomes and mitigate risks.
Foster strong relationships with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to enhance project delivery and profitability.

Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in Business, Engineering, or a related field; MBA or relevant postgraduate qualification is preferred.
Proven experience in a senior commercial management role within the rail industry, with a track record of managing a business unit and delivering successful projects.
In-depth knowledge and experience working with NEC, JCT, and ICE forms of contract.
Strong leadership and people management skills, with experience leading and developing high-performing teams.
Excellent negotiation, communication, and interpersonal skills.
Analytical mindset with the ability to identify commercial opportunities and risks.
Proactive approach to problem-solving and decision-making.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced and dynamic environment.
