Senior Construction and Procurement Lawyer

What is the role

The Senior Construction and Procurement Lawyer is a trusted and valued senior legal advisor to the business.

You will be a construction law subject matter expert responsible for identifying, managing and mitigating legal risk in GAL's capital programmes and construction related activities in a manner that facilitates competitive advantage and commercial growth.

What will you do?

  • Provides legal advice primarily to the Construction team, Procurement and the wider business as required, in respect of construction and commercial matters of significant value and complexity
  • Acts as trusted legal advisor for the business, providing legal risk mitigation advice to facilitate commercial growth
  • Coaches more junior members of the Legal team and wider business
  • Advises on relevant legislative and regulatory requirements and keeps abreast of changes to that framework
  • Advises in relation to ongoing contract management issues
  • Educates the business in relation to legal risk identification and mitigation
  • Assists General Counsel with Legal Function budget oversight and management

Do you have what we're looking for?
  • A construction law subject matter expert, with deep knowledge of legal risk and mitigation strategies
  • Extensive experience advising commercial organisations on managing legal risk in a way that truly facilitates advantage and commercial growth
  • Extensive exposure advising on matters of significant complexity and strategic value
  • Comfortable assuming a degree of legal risk within reasonable tolerance levels, having deployed available mitigation tools
  • Experience advising and influencing at senior levels
  • Understanding of where and how to contribute to deliver the best outcomes
  • Experience developing and leading teams
  • Ability to analyse complex legal and commercial concepts; identify risk and mitigation strategies; and translate into clear, practical and actionable advice that enables the business to further its strategic ambitions
  • High degree of commercial awareness and understanding
  • Consistently curious, with a strong desire for continuous improvement
  • Confident acting autonomously, with ability to ruthlessly prioritise and contribute in areas of greatest strategic importance to GAL
  • A credible, trusted voice; able to build strong relationships and influence and constructively challenge at all levels of the business
  • Analytical, logical, pragmatic and solution-oriented; a strong communicator
  • Respected leader able to support the development of colleagues across the business
  • Professional legal qualification and +10 years PQE
  • Current practicing certificate
