My client is looking for a senior competition counsel and a competition lawyer to join their Group's legal team to support on a range of competition and regulatory matters across the Group.
Responsibilities
- You will be accountable for leading on legal and strategic projects and the provision of UK and EU competition and regulatory law advice. In doing this, you will engage with and act as a trusted legal adviser and business partner to stakeholders across the business, including senior stakeholders up to CEO level.
- You will identify and develop ways competition and regulatory law can be used to develop and enable strategic agenda.
- You will be engaging with external stakeholders including customers, Ofcom and competition authorities in relation to competition and regulatory law matters. You’ll also lead teams in providing legal advice in contentious competition and regulatory matters to achieve the best business outcomes.
- This will include advising on the merits of litigating against Ofcom, competition authorities and third parties before the Courts and if a decision to prosecute is made then initiating and running cases before the Competition Appeal Tribunal, the Competition & Market Authority, the European Courts and/or judicial reviews with the support of external barristers, external economists and other suppliers. You will also need to manage and deliver against budget for the competition and regulatory law cases you are responsible for, including litigation before the Courts.
- This role involves initiating training and developing best practice documents on competition law. You will also manage cross-functional projects, supervise junior team members, drive performance improvements, and coordinate with the Commitments Assurance Office to ensure governance adherence.
What they are looking for:
- 7PQE+, ideally E&W qualified
- Experience working on competition and regulatory matters
- Experience in supporting on advisory and contentious competition/regulatory matters
- Previous direct or indirect supervision of junior members (ideal)
- Happy to consider candidates with experience supporting competition matters from a regulator or already within an in-house legal team.
