What is the purpose of this role?
This key role will be responsible for leading a technical team delivering our complex engineering wastewater treatment infrastructure projects up to £150m in value. Taking a 'cradle-to-grave approach, you will develop, build and lead the multi-disciplined team necessary to ensure the success of your project(s) and/or programs. You will be responsible for setting and delivering all key project technical activities that deliver against business case objectives as well as ensuring a strong health, safety and well-being ethos within a delivery focussed culture. More specifically you will be accountable for all technical aspects throughout the project lifecycle including.

  • Providing key input to the selection and management of consultants, design-build contractors, and third-party suppliers.
  • Led successful strategies to develop and define tender packages, project briefs, early identification and mitigation of program and project risks including consideration of any potential enabling works and maximizing environmental benefits of investment.
  • Working closely and collaboratively with key internal and external stakeholders including asset management, engineering, operations, procurement, customers, and our regulators to align technical requirements and strategies for delivery success.
  • The ability to assimilate and articulate the business strategy for your project(s) and ensure it is delivered through the technical solution.

Have a track record of successful technical management of major engineering infrastructure projects up to £150m in value within a regulatory environment (ideally the water industry). You will be confident in demonstrating your capability with risk-based and analytical decision-making, using your excellent verbal, written, and presentational skills to positively influence complex investment decisions. You will be comfortable with communicating horizontally and vertically at all levels of the business and with external stakeholders.
In particular, you will have an engineering or other relevant degree and Chartered status and deliver high-quality capital solutions with an excellent customer focus aided by exceptional interpersonal skills and enjoy working collegiately.
Demonstrate excellent technical judgment and commercial acumen across all wastewater treatment processes alongside the management of multi-disciplined teams.
Possess excellent leadership skills and a desire to develop staff through line management of a team of 3-5 people.
Have process design experience and a good knowledge of conventional and preferably advanced wastewater treatment processes.
Be experienced in writing commercially and contractually sensitive project briefs and technical specifications to support tender events.
You will be self-starting, resilient, and tenacious under pressure, with a desire to successfully deliver projects on time, cost, and quality. Experience in delivering projects through full planning and environmental impact assessment is strongly desirable.
A great team player with the ability to work collaboratively in a challenging project environment, who is fully competent at using the appropriate company IT systems.
