Job Description
An exciting opportunity has arisen for a Senior Engineering Manager within Thales Optronics and Missile Electronics. The successful candidate will initially undertake the role of Senior Engineering Manager for an entire business sector within Thales OME.
This role is to lead, plan and manage the engineering delivery across multiple programmes within the Sea business sector and is part of the senior leadership team for the Sea business.
As the Senior Engineering Manager in the Sea business sector you will work in collaboration with the Director of the Sea business sector, the Senior Programme Managers, the Sea Product Line Architect and the Head of Engineering Delivery to ensure that the design, development and qualification programmes are deliverable within the agreed costs, schedule and to the required quality.
In this role you will be responsible for:
- forming and supporting the multi-disciplinary engineering delivery teams to be able to generate engineering solutions that meet the Customer needs
- supporting the engineering delivery teams with day to day interventions on specific problems and issue management within the Sea business sector
- producing the business sector strategy that will ensure delivery of all engineering programmes within the sector whilst meeting the governance required within the business
- work with the Director of the Sea business sector to define the organisation and work breakdown required to deliver the programmes
- work with the Head of Engineering Delivery to define the strategy for specific process, practice and tool tailoring to ensure delivery is successful across all programmes in the Sea business sector
- overseeing the engineering resourcing levels and work with the wider business to resolve any shortfalls and issues
- chairing regular Engineering Status Reviews for each project within the Sea business sector to monitor engineering delivery performance, identify resolution actions required, identify improvement areas required and identify emerging risks
- attending and leading critical programme reviews (technical and delivery)
- undertaking a project Engineering Manager role for any projects or programmes that require signification issue resolution
- work with the Product Line Architect to identify of re-use opportunities across projects and programmes and contribute to the Product Roadmap
- producing and coordinating succession planning with the functional discipline leads
- act as the People Manager for the project Engineering Managers and provide feedback into the people manager reviews with the functional discipline leads
The successful candidate will have an extensive background in engineering and engineering management on large programmes with demonstrable experience in successfully defining and leading the delivery of multi-disciplinary engineering projects. They will be highly customer focused with excellent communication skills and have the ability to work in a fast moving environment with multiple parallel objectives.

This role will report to the Head of Engineering Delivery.
