Job Description

At Alpha Channel, we are building something new together.

We are a team of developers, dedicated to creating bold, new and exciting experiences through pushing the boundaries of art and technology. Based in our beautiful new studio in Toronto's Liberty Village, we’re looking for talented and driven individuals who are passionate about creating amazing games, and good work culture.

Come and join us in building a diverse studio that values imagination and the individual.

Overview:

As a Senior Game Designer at Alpha Channel Inc., you will help to deliver some of the core design and mechanics of the game. You will establish design goals with the Design Director – and usher your features through development including in-engine work, tuning and iteration. You are comfortable working in a small agile team and helping dive in to solve problems and deliver quality. You also have a wealth of knowledge from a wide variety of games and strive to create the most engaging content you can working collaboratively with all disciplines towards a unified goal.

What you will be doing:

  • Working with the directors to identify design goals.
  • Creating and presenting design documents and intentions to the team.
  • Working closely with tech and programmers to implement designs.
  • Getting hands-on in the editor playing, iterating, and tweaking features.
  • Working collaboratively with Production to ensure we deliver quality features within our milestone timelines.

What we’re looking for from you:

  • Strong experience as a Game Designer, having been accountable for similar responsibilities in your previous role.
  • Excellent knowledge of game editors and experience delivering features
  • Ability to work autonomously, and self-directed.
  • Strong oral and written communication skills
  • Open minded and comfortable with feedback and iteration on your work

What you can expect from the recruitment process:

Screening call: first you will meet with Jess Pearce, People Partner at AlphaChannel, for a 30-minute Teams call. This isn't an interview, but a chance to get to know you better, and in turn share more about team and the opportunity.

First Interview: next you will meet with Mike Brown, Design Director, for a 1-hour Teams call. The focus of this conversation will be a high-level functional interview. Here you will have the opportunity to showcase your skills, share your experiences so far and ask any questions you might have about the role.

Meet the team: you will next have the chance to meet the team you would work with closely in the role, Calvin Leveille, Game Designer, and a member of the Programming team.

Meet the founders: finally, you will meet with our founders, Bane Grujic, and Daniel Ebanks, to learn more about AlphaChannel and how this role will contribute to the project.

Don't meet all the requirements?

We care more about outcomes than ticking boxes, and we know the perfect person for the role often has a CV that's a little different.

Research shows that women are particularly less likely to apply if they don't meet all the criteria in a job listing. If you're second guessing yourself, we encourage you to get in touch anyway.

Don't quit before you've started!

How can we support you?

We want to set you up for success and make our recruitment process as accessible as possible for you.

In your application, feel free to let us know if you need anything to make your experience or environment more comfortable. We'll do our best to support you!
