£48,000 - £60,000

Derby / Warrington (Hybrid working)


We are now recruiting for the exciting role of Conventional Health & Safety Senior Advisor, to be involved in the safety and regulatory compliance for game changing technology within the nuclear industry.

An overarching strategic objective of Rolls-Royce SMR is to integrate robust conventional health and safety policies, standards, processes and good practices, within engineering activities and product design definitions.


The Conventional Health and Safety Senior Advisor is responsible for implementing and leading a programme with the intent to deliver a safe design solution that reduces conventional safety risks to As Low As Reasonably Practicable (ALARP).

Critically, this requires an individual with strong interpersonal skills, necessary to elicit, understand, prioritise, and deliver complex demands. With the ability to apply strategic thinking about our integrated health and safety approach, and effective application of UK legislation and use of good practices, to assure Rolls-Royce SMR delivers a repeatable and safe plant design.

Specific activities the Conventional Health and Safety Senior Advisor would be involved in include:

  • Lead the development of new, and update of existing strategies and deployment plans.
  • Coordinating and management of the framework, and defining the requirements to be applied throughout the design and delivery of Rolls-Royce SMR nuclear power plant.
  • Provide subject matter expert advice, guidance, support and interpretation of legislative framework on Health and Safety through the design process to engineering and design functions. (e.g. CDM, LOLER, COMAH, Working at Height Regulations etc).
  • Support specialist safety assessments and Environment, Safety, Security and Safeguards (E3S) Hazard and Operability (HAZOP) reviews.
  • Lead the engagement with external stakeholders on Conventional Health and Safety and the provision of supporting information and documents.
  • Provide assurance, learning from experience and deliver business continuous improvement plans.
  • Support the development of a health and safety culture and drive for HS&E Excellence.

Key Selection Criteria:

  • Experience in providing Subject Matter Expert (SME) advice, guidance and support in Health and Safety across large infrastructure projects throughout their lifecycle and experience in design risk management.
  • Experience in stakeholder management and engagement including interacting with Customers, Regulators, Senior Leaders, and external assessors and auditors.
  • Experience in technical writing within the discipline, documentation arrangements and the provision of presentations to Customers, Regulators, Senior Leaders, and key stakeholders.
  • Have a broad understanding of the different risk assessment techniques and an understanding of when these should be applied such as danger risk assessments HAZOPs and HAZIDs.
  • Experience in creating, implementing, maintaining, and performing risk-based assurance activities to ensure suitable arrangements are maintained and outputs from process meet internal and external requirements and expectations.


Pay and Benefits


We anticipate paying a salary of between £48,000 & £60,000, plus:-


Bonus - Performance related bonus of up to 12.5%

Benefits Allowance – £2200, enabling you to create a bespoke package
