Role summary:

Reporting to the Company’s Chief Operating Officer or such person designated by them, the Senior HR Business Partner will be a leader of our HR team, responsible for providing strategic HR support and guidance to the c-suite and senior leaders across the functional areas of GB News. This individual will play a crucial role in understanding the strategic priorities of the company and developing people solutions that support these priorities. The Senior HR Business Partner will take a proactive approach to employee relations, staying ahead of changing legislation to ensure compliance and mitigate risks. Additionally, they will work in partnership with leaders across GB News to understand their business objectives and develop HR strategies and initiatives that support the achievement of organisational goals.

Key responsibilities and main tasks:

Partnership:

  • and implement HR strategies and initiatives that align with the overall business strategy.
  • with senior leaders and functional areas to understand their strategic priorities and develop HR strategies and initiatives that support these priorities.
  • strategic HR guidance, coaching, mentorship and support to senior leaders and managers on a range of HR matters, including employee relations, performance management, talent development, and organisational change.
  • HR data and metrics to identify trends and opportunities for improvement and develop and present recommendations to senior leaders to drive HR effectiveness and efficiency.
  • for the overall reporting of the function, ensuring progress is communicated upwards and deadlines adhered to.
  • relationships with 3rd party suppliers.

Relations:

  • stay ahead of changing legislation and regulatory requirements, providing guidance and support to ensure compliance and mitigate risks.
  • advisor to management and employees, addressing and resolving employee relations issues effectively and in a timely manner.
  • employee relations issues, including conducting investigations, resolving disputes, and providing guidance to managers on disciplinary actions, as well as driving the resolution of more serious matters such as threatened and actual employment tribunal claims in partnership with the Company’s legal team.
  • investigations into employee complaints and concerns, ensuring fair and consistent application of policies and the creation of accurate, timely and detailed notes of all elements of the process.

Management:

  • talent management programs, including effective programmes on a Company wide basis for key items such as but not limited to: talent acquisition, talent pipeline, performance management and review, talent development, career planning, succession planning and compensation strategy.
  • closely with leaders to identify high-potential employees and develop strategies for their growth within the organisation.
  • will specifically include overseeing the implementation of a new HRIS system by December 2024 to facilitate a first-class interface between the Company and its employees across the ‘entire employee life cycle’.

Development:

  • initiatives that enhance organisational effectiveness, including culture-building activities, change management, and team development.
  • training needs and coordinate the delivery of relevant training programs including ensuring that all employees have completed their mandatory training modules.
  • or assist in leading, organisational change initiatives, ensuring smooth transitions and effective communication.
  • and implement HR policies, procedures, and programs in alignment with company values and regulatory requirements.

Policy and Compliance:

  • compliance with employment laws and regulations, regularly reviewing and updating HR policies and procedures.
  • guidance on HR-related legal matters and support the resolution of disputes.
  • regular surveys and feedback sessions to gauge employee sentiment and identify areas for improvement, including regular HR surgeries.

Engagement:

  • and manage HR projects and initiatives, such as employee engagement surveys, talent reviews, succession planning, and diversity and inclusion initiatives.
  • and implement initiatives to enhance employee engagement, satisfaction, and retention.

Budget and Team Management:

  • all key HR processes are run effectively generating the required outcomes within the agreed budget.
  • opportunities for cost savings and efficiency improvements within the HR operation.
  • that the HR team are led by example and continuously focussed on delivering the business’ and their personal objectives.
  • and mentor HR team members, providing guidance and support to help them grow and develop in their roles.

Operations:

  • and manage the delivery of strategic and tactical HR projects.
  • improve and streamline HR policies and procedures across GB News.
  • the Onboarding sign-off process, including monthly induction days and probation sign-offs.
  • the payroll process using our HRIS, this will include ensuring any overtime or additional payments are authorised and processed.
  • with the Company’s legal department to ensure that the Company’s HR contracts data base is fully up to date and that all employees, contributors, freelancers and guests have fully executed terms of engagement or long form agreements as appropriate.

What you will bring to GB News

  • degree in human resources, business administration, or a related field/CIPD level 7/ or equivalent experience.
  • experience as an HR Business Partner or in a similar strategic HR role. Minimum of 7 years of experience in HR, with at least 5 years in an HRBP or similar role, ideally in a fast-paced organisation.
  • knowledge of HR policies, procedures, and employment law.
  • communication, interpersonal, and problem-solving skills.
  • to build effective relationships at all levels of the organisation.
  • ability to influence, coach and support manager across the business.
  • analytical, numerical and evaluation skills to effectively review data and trends.
  • relationship building and influencing skills both internally and externally.
  • confident in challenging difficult stakeholders and have the ability to provide comprehensive and timely advice.
  • to step across and support others in the team with their duties to cover holidays etc.
  • in a digital news/media organisation a bonus but not essential.
