Job overview

This is an exciting opportunity for a highly motivated registered nurse to join the Infection Prevention and Control Team at Warrington and Halton Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust. The Trust is rated as Good by the CQC and on a journey to becoming Outstanding for our patients, our communities and each other.

The post provides an opportunity for you to learn skills in managing and developing the Trust’s Infection Prevention and Control Service in conjunction with the Associate Chief Nurse for Infection Prevention. You will be responsible for managing the Infection Prevention and Control Nurses on a day-to-day basis and have overall and continuing responsibility for implementing strategies to reduce the risk of infection to patients, staff, and visitors.

Main duties of the job

The successful applicants will assist the Trust to meet specific health targets e.g. MRSA, C. difficile and Gram-negative bloodstream infection and the requirements of the Health and Social Care Act 2008 Code of Practice on the Prevention and Control of Infections and Related Guidance.

Applicants should have excellent communication skills, be a team player and also able to work independently. Applicants should be able to work effectively in an environment with frequent interruptions and within stressful, unpredictable situations including responding to and solving urgent and emergency situations on a daily basis. The role involves daily communication with clinical staff to provide advice on safe patient care.

The successful applicant will deputise for the Associate Chief Nurse for Infection Prevention & Control. The role currently involves participation in an on-call rota, however this is under review.

Qualifications

  • • Registered Nurse (adult) on NMC register
  • • Post-registration qualification in infection prevention and control
  • • Master’s degree in health-related subject
  • • Teaching and assessing qualification
  • • Evidence of on-going professional development

Experience

  • • Highly developed specialist IPC knowledge
  • • Experience of working in an Infection Prevention and Control Team
  • • Participated in service development and implementation of change
  • • Experience of teaching and assessing in the clinical area and classroom setting

Skills, Knowledge and Competencies

  • • Able to analyse data and provide complex written reports
  • • Knowledge of professional and NHS issues, and policy relating to specialist area
  • • Able to present information to senior managerial and professional groups
  • • Attention to detail ensuring accuracy
  • • Effective verbal and written communication
  • • Use of Microsoft packages including Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
  • • Work in an environment with frequent interruptions and within stressful situations
  • • Work pattern is unpredictable ability to responds to bleep to resolve urgent and emerging situations daily
