Wood Commissioning is actively looking for 'Expressions of Interest' from experienced Senior / Instrument Commissioning Engineers for upcoming long-term roles on Hinkley Point 'C' (HPC)
HPC is a major infrastructure project encompassing the design, construction and commissioning of two European Pressure Reactors (EPR's) in the South-West of England
When in operation it will deliver circa 3,260MW of secure low carbon energy to the UK energy network, which is enough energy to power approximately 6 million UK homes. The Project also represents a significant investment in the UK nuclear industry and the related technical supply chains
Job Objective:

  • Under the direction of NNB GenCo. and the HPC Project, be accountable for the consistent and safe management of Instrumentation commissioning workscope, delivering fully commissioned Instrumentation systems / sub-systems in accordance with project requirements (procedures and processes), schedule and budget
  • To play an active role in ensuring that all Project HSE goals are achieved and where possible exceeded
  • To process safe completion of system commissioning in line with the project schedule and milestones, ensuring all systems are handed over in a consistent and timely manner
  • To assist in maintenance of project budget through diligence and utilisation of efficient and effective working practices
  • Support HPC to ensure that the commissioning process meets nuclear, environmental and industrial safety regulatory requirements and that it reflects good industry practice in international safety and technical excellence

Responsibilities:
  • Identification of sub-system limits and updating of limits in line with latest revision of P&ID's / SLD's (in conjunction with completions personnel)
  • Supervise and support Commissioning Technicians in the execution of their daily activities
  • Verification of the completions / commissioning management database in line with applicable project procedures and latest design data
  • Develop commissioning documentation relating to commissioning testing and system validation activities
  • Completion of Commissioning Test Procedures (CTP's), Commissioning Instructions (CI's) and liaison with construction and completions personnel
  • Analyse commissioning results and provide reports summarising the outcome of commissioning
  • Support the verification and acceptance of construction completions and commissioning handover packages in line with the agreed system handover schedule
  • Ensuring commissioning data, documentation and handover are in accordance with project procedures
  • Adherence to all applicable site/project safety procedures / active participation in all company/project safety initiatives
  • Status reporting of commissioning progress as required by the project
  • Identification & sourcing of Commissioning tools / spares / consumables
  • Production of commissioning work packs in line with project procedures
  • Co-ordination of equipment vendors / subcontractors during commissioning activities
  • Identification of PTW requirements and the raising of applicable permits to cover commissioning workscope
  • Provide input into execution of Commissioning audit reviews
  • Provide input into competency assurance system
  • Provide input into budget management and cost control
  • Provide input into planning process as requested
  • Provide input into safety reviews / walk-rounds

Skills / Qualifications
Qualifications:
  • Recognised Instrumentation and Controls trade background combined with proven and demonstrable experience as an Instrument and Controls Commissioning Engineer in Nuclear, Process & Chemicals, O&G or associated industry
  • ONC (or equivalent) in Instrumentation and Controls or related subject
  • HNC / HND (or equivalent) in Instrumentation and Controls Engineering or related subject an advantage
  • Company mandatory training (Induction, Risk Assessment etc)
  • IT literate (Excel / Word / PowerPoint etc.)
  • PTW Training
  • HAZID / HAZOP Training
  • Ability to submit for BPSS security clearance

Knowledge, Skills and Experience:
  • Demonstrable experience in an Instrumentation Commissioning Engineer or similar role with a proven background of delivery
  • Detailed knowledge of instrumentation and control system commissioning
  • Conversant with the completions process and associated completions management software
  • Experienced in the supervision of personnel and team working
  • Good knowledge of industry related safe working practices / procedures
  • Planning and cost control experience
  • Demonstrates a commitment to safety
  • Flexible -able to comply / adapt to company and client requirements
  • Delivery focused and committed to achievement of project goals
  • Ability to interact with other departments / disciplines
  • Confident and able to work on own initiative

  • Ability to interpret procedures and drawings in particular extensive understanding of P&ID's / SLD's / D&ID's etc
  • Ability to produce technical documents and procedures covering all aspects of the commissioning process
  • Ability to produce schedule and cost estimates for applicable commissioning workscope
  • Knowledge and use of Permit to Work Systems
