As part of the wider Octopus Energy group, Octopus Renewables sources, invests in and actively manages a range of utility scale renewable energy assets. We are looking to expand our team as we continue to scale our investments base of c£3.5bn.

Since entering the renewables market in 2010, Octopus Renewables has grown to become the largest investor of solar power in Europe and a leading investor in onshore wind. We currently manage an increasingly global portfolio of renewable energy assets. The operational portfolio includes over 250 energy generating companies, delivering revenue in excess of £250m pa. 

Having originated, invested and managed assets in the renewable energy sector for over a decade, our energy investment and asset management team of c.70 professionals is one of the largest and most experienced in Europe. The team is structured for scale and long-term ownership of energy assets.

We are looking for an experienced Senior Associate/Investment Manager/Senior Investment Manager to work within Octopus Renewables, reporting to the Investment Director responsible for an area of investment activity focused on the energy transition, but excluding core established technologies such as solar and wind (which are well covered elsewhere within the existing investment team). The investment mandate is broad and includes venture capital or private equity type investments and real asset (infrastructure) investment. Your role will be to help a dedicated growth team originate, assess, structure and execute investment opportunities, providing high quality financial analysis and commercial insight to support all aspects of the investment process. 

What you'll do

  • Investment strategy: You will be expected to influence the strategic direction of our investment activities, collating analysis and providing opinions. You will work closely with the team, to ensure the opportunities which best fit the investor’s objectives are being prioritised and executed.
  • Origination: You will be expected to utilise and enhance your existing network to originate growth opportunities and build trusted relationships with the people behind the target businesses/partnerships.
  • Structuring: You will be expected to support the development and structuring of new products, investments and/or partnerships, taking ownership of the day to day tasks required to arrange structures and the associated contracts. 
  • Diligence and modelling: You will be responsible for developing and maintaining the financial model used to develop/assess new products/investments/partnerships and be responsible for leading external and internal teams supporting the diligence processes.
  • Transaction Execution: Leading the delivery of transactions including oversight of team members managing the process and leading any commercial discussions and contract negotiations.

What you'll need

  • Experience working in renewables or broader energy sector investing, either through infrastructure or venture capital/private equity investment.
  • You will be able to supply multiple examples of reviewing business propositions. 
  • The ability to understand and model accurately a business proposition, run scenarios and consider sensitivities.
  • Confidence to operate and interpret a detailed project financed infrastructure financial model.
  • Ability to translate outputs of financial models into actionable commercial insights and communicate these clearly and succinctly.
  • Strong financial acumen including a thorough understanding of discounted cash flow valuations and the differences and relationships between choices of discount rate.
  • Relevant financial qualifications such as accountancy or CFA would be an advantage
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-moving business.
