Job Description

Job Opportunity: Designated Safeguarding Lead (DSL) in Secondary School Role OverviewThis is a senior leadership position, and the successful candidate will be an integral part of our school community. As the DSL, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the safety and well-being of our students. You will lead safeguarding efforts, collaborate with staff, and liaise with external agencies to create a secure learning environment. Responsibilities Policy Development and Enforcement:

Develop, review, and enforce the school's safeguarding policy, ensuring compliance with legal requirements. Keep the policy up-to-date and communicate any changes to staff and stakeholders.

Risk Recognition and Response:

Be the first point of contact for staff with safeguarding concerns. Recognise and assess potential safeguarding issues promptly. Make referrals to social services or other relevant agencies when necessary.

Collaboration:

Work closely with the Senior Leadership Team to embed safeguarding within the school ethos. Liaise with the head teacher/principal to keep them informed of ongoing safeguarding matters. Collaborate with local authority case managers or designated officers when needed.

Training and Awareness:

Ensure that all staff receive regular safeguarding training. Promote awareness of safeguarding issues amongst staff, students, and parents. Connect with the Local Safeguarding Children Board (LSCB) and share training opportunities.

Support and Expertise:

Act as a source of support, advice, and expertise for staff. Provide guidance on safeguarding matters and best practices.

Requirements Qualifications:

Teaching Qualification DSL training

Experience:

Significant experience working in safeguarding or child protection roles. Proven ability to lead and manage safeguarding processes effectively.

Skills:

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Strong organisational abilities. Empathy and a commitment to student welfare.

Availability:

The DSL must be available during school hours to address safeguarding concerns. Consideration will be given to whether the DSL needs to be physically present on the school premises or if it can be contacted remotely.
