Insurance, Pensions & Investment Customer & Business Risk (C&BR) - The Business Risk, Investments and Climate Team are a first line risk team with C&BR and are looking to recruit a Senior Risk Manager who will work as a trusted partner supporting IP&I to deliver against collective priorities while improving the risk and control environment through specialist knowledge and capabilities. C&BR has specialists in different aspects of risk including investment, operational, financial crime, regulatory and business risks.

The purpose of this role is to support senior management and Heads of Function across the Pensions & Distribution (P&D) and Retirements & Longstanding (R&LS) to identify and mitigate risks arising within business processes. The job holder will provide thought leadership, knowledge, analytical skills, partner management capability, and self-confidence to challenge existing processes and to make well researched and soundly judged recommendations for improvement.

As a Senior Risk Manager, you'll be responsible for driving activity to support a range of risk management processes and systems including continuous risk management of a business areas risk and control profile (including Platform interaction and third-party suppliers), interpreting a range of data, managing the efficient and effective production of high-quality analysis, and anticipating partner needs.

Location and Ways of Working

We're flexible on location for this role, therefore we can accommodate you being based in Edinburgh, Leeds, Bristol or London. We work in a hybrid model, splitting our time between the office and working from home.

Here's what you'd be getting involved with

  • Aligned to Accountable Executives (AE) for Pensions & Distribution and Retirements & Longstanding including related platforms.

  • Leading the secondary risk category of Change and driving the activity required monthly, quarterly, and annually across Insurance.

  • Drive activity to understand and maintain the risk and control profile. Ensuring current and emerging key risks are understood and mitigating actions are in place and driven to completion.

  • Ensure the Balance Score Card Metric of 100% of risks reach an Embedded status on RCSA.

  • Attend senior leadership meetings and provide practical insight in relation to risks and controls

  • Shape, influence and embed a strong proactive risk management culture, based on thematic reviews and identification of areas of weakness in the risk landscape, driving forward control environment improvements to existing business practices.

  • Contribute to high quality, timely updates to Risk Committee on key themes, trends and horizon risks to support a range of risk management processes and decision making.

  • Establish relationships across the 2nd and 3rd Lines of Defence to identify, share and implement standard methodologies across the organisation.

  • Drive continuous improvements to our internal team processes to ensure they are designed to better embrace ways of working and deliver incrementally at pace.

  • Collaborate with workstream leads to ensure consideration and standardisation in the identification, management and treatment of risks and controls. Develop a culture of risk and "control by design".

  • Supporting third-party suppliers associated to the end-to-end journey and attending Risk Governance Committees.

And the skills/background you'd possess

  • Significant subject matter expertise in business risk management and processes in Retirements and Workplace savings businesses.

  • You must be a strong confident leader, who clearly demonstrates drive, energy, dedication and integrity, and with a track record of delivery on "Hows".

  • You'll need to be an experienced Risk professional, with experience in Risk Management in a similarly complex, constantly evolving, regulated environment.

  • Strong product, operational and change experience is essential General Insurance & Protection and Chief Operating Office.

  • Ability to build and maintain a relationship with key executive partners.

  • Strong influencing, negotiating, team management and coaching skills.

  • Understanding of regulatory framework and compliance requirements for insurance firms.

  • Good understanding of Supplier Management Framework.

  • Experience in making use of available data to make good decisions, and providing subjective insightful views backed by appropriate data in simple ways, is also crucial.
