About the team and role

We are seeking a highly motivated and experienced Senior Manager Internal Audit to join our dynamic, innovative and collaborative Internal Audit team (14 people across the UK and the US). We provide forward-looking assurance, insight and advice to enable Pearson to achieve its strategic objectives. The Senior Manager, Internal Audit reports to the VP Internal Audit & Controls Compliance and will provide a platform for future growth into a Director role. As a senior manager in the Internal Audit Team, you will be accountable for the delivery of several of the financial/ operational audits in our portfolio. You will take full accountability for delivery of the audits in your area with responsibility for reviewing key audit outputs and ensuring final outputs are ready for final review by a Director or VP, Internal Audit. Your communication skills and flexibility will be key to helping us maintain the strong partnerships with key stakeholders and other departments that we pride ourselves on. You will inspire team members to question how we can best support Pearson with assurance to achieve its strategy. Whilst this role does not have any direct reports, you will be expected to manage audit delivery teams, ensuring that colleagues’ development is supported while on assignment and that they receive helpful feedback at the end of each audit.

Further responsibilities include:

  • Work with the Internal Audit Leadership team to develop the annual audit plan to provide proportionate coverage of Pearson principal risks.
  • End-to-end accountability for delivery of the assigned audits within the portfolio. Act as audit lead or review lead on audits based on audit size and complexity.
  • Work with stakeholders to devise and negotiate practical and commercial recommendations.
  • Develop, maintain, and leverage relationships with key stakeholders.
  • Work collaboratively with other members of the Internal Audit Leadership team to use the department’s resources effectively and in line with Internal Audit priorities.
  • Lead, motivate and develop IA team members in line with the department’s vision and talent management strategy. Own delivery of one or two strategic priority projects.
  • Develop and maintain a strong internal audit methodology that adheres to professional standards.
  • Stay current on emerging risks and trends in internal audit and ensure the internal audit function remains relevant and effective and can anticipate emerging risks.
  • Partner with other departments across the company to promote a culture of risk awareness and control.

Location: Based on a hybrid working model, this role is UK based with the expectation that you work from our London office at least one day a week.

What we are looking for

  • Minimum of 7 years of experience in audit and/or assurance across multiple organisations or industries. This role would suit experienced managers with strong fin ops experience coming from practice and looking for their first role in industry.
  • Knowledge of major control frameworks (e.g. COSO, ISO), UK and US corporate governance as well internal audit standards and techniques.
  • Strong leadership, team building, and development skills with an ability to set clear objectives and drive results.
  • Proven ability to work with and communicate effectively across all levels across the organisation.
  • Analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities.
  • Strong influencing skills and business judgment.
  • ACA/ ACCA (or equivalent) certification required.
