Job Description

An exciting opportunity has risen for a Senior Pharmacologist to join a highly specialised contract research organisation providing pre-clinical bioassay services to support drug development programmes across pharmaceuticals and biotech companies.


Job Title: Senior Pharmacologist

Vacancy type: Permanent

Area: East Midlands

Salary: £40,000 – 45,000 per annum with great benefits including annual bonus


SRG is working with a rapidly expanding contract research organisation who have recently moved to brand new facilities and have great plans to grow their capabilities across pharmacology. This position will report to the Bioassay Operations and Study Manager.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:


  • Designing, planning and conducting in vitro pharmacology studies to improve understanding of a drug's activity for CRO clients.
  • Collect, analyse and interpret data using computers, high technology measuring systems and other sophisticated equipment.
  • Apply and develop the results of research to work through a variety of applications, such as new products, processes, techniques and practices.
  • Undertake laboratory work as required and be responsible for drafting SOPs, COSHH as relevant.
  • Prepare and present complex scientific information to internal and external stakeholders.
  • Keep abreast of regulatory and scientific guidelines and industry expectations and contribute to the establishment and delivery of appropriate services within the department.
  • Taking a lead role in problem resolution and ensure that the conduct and reporting of the project complies with the client requirements including review of data and production of scientific reports.
  • Continually seek to identify opportunities for and lead improvements in quality, productivity and automation and the introduction of new tests and techniques.
  • Assist in obtaining new business and in client inspection visits.
  • Develop and maintain training programme modules in own area of expertise to meet client requirements and realise individual potential.


Skills Required:


  • Ideally you will have a PhD in pharmacology, biochemistry or a related discipline.
  • Essential: Hands on experience of using techniques such as ligand binding assays, GPCR assays , receptor tyrosine kinase assays, enzyme based kinetics and protein-protein interactions.
  • An experience working in a CRO or on client projects is highly desirable.
  • Significant experience and knowledge of a broad range of bioscience related disciplines (enzymology, biophysics, cell biology, pharmacology) and their application to drug development.
