Salary: up to £65k per year + benefits

Location: Either Stirling or Inverness but WFH options available for the right person

Hours: Monday to Friday – no weekends

The Senior Planning Consultant role aims to position our client as a leading provider of renewable energy, planning, and EIA services in Scotland for the long-term future and beyond.


The successful individual will serve as the primary advisor within the company on Scottish planning and EIA regulations.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Foster strong client relationships by deeply understanding market needs, refining service offerings, and effectively securing projects
  • Take charge of consultancy services and project delivery, including devising planning strategies, managing risks, drafting technical reports and supervising the preparation of Environmental Statements (ES)
  • Handle planning appeals and represent clients at hearings with expertise and professionalism
  • Prepare carefully crafted fee proposals, reports and policy responses of the highest quality
  • Maintain a thorough understanding of renewable energy development regulations and guidance, staying at the forefront of industry knowledge
  • Manage both existing and new client relationships with care and attention
  • Conduct comprehensive reviews of team work to ensure strict compliance with standards
  • Ensure strict adherence to Quality Management standards to uphold excellence in all operations
  • Drive the growth of planning and EIA business in Scotland through strategic initiatives.
  • Provide oversight of project management and financial aspects to ensure smooth operations
  • Offer robust support for promotion and marketing efforts to enhance brand visibility
  • Cultivate strong relationships with current and potential clients, fostering trust and loyalty
  • Identify emerging markets and actively contribute to the development of new services
  • Participate in marketing activities and industry events to stay connected and informed
  • Develop a comprehensive EIA and planning strategy tailored to the specific needs of Scotland
  • Provide valuable input into departmental and company-wide strategies to drive overall success
  • Ensure full compliance with our client's HSQE policies to maintain a safe and responsible work environment


Essential Criteria / Skills / Qualifications

  • Significant EIA project leadership experience in renewable energy, particularly onshore wind projects in Scotland
  • Experience in business growth within planning/EIA or similar fields
  • Detailed knowledge of UK planning systems, preferably with formal EIA training
  • Strong team working and leadership skills
  • Ability to manage specialist sub-consultants
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Ability to convey complex information and resolve conflicts
  • Self-motivated with effective time management skills
  • Proactive problem-solving ability
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
  • Willingness to travel as needed


Desirable / Non-Essential Criteria

  • Master's level qualification in EIA and TCPA qualification
  • Membership in a relevant professional body such as IEMA
  • Experience in remote working
  • Familiarity with Microsoft Project and GIS software, WindFarmer, WindPro or AutoCAD
