Senior Project Engineer

Wood is recruiting for a Senior Project Engineer to support delivery of engineering capital projects based at our client site in Barnard Castle, County Durham.
This is a site-based, permanent staff position with hybrid working available after an initial period of on-boarding. The expectation is at least 3 days on site with 2 days working from home; once you are established in the role, this can then be reviewed.
Barnard Castle is a key site for the client witha large number ofnew products coming through development. They manufacture and supply a huge range of different pharmaceuticals and have recently opened a new state of the art aseptic digital facility producing biopharmaceuticals.
The Role
The Senior Project Engineer will work within the Capital Projects Team at GSK Barnard Castle. Initially, the primarily role will focus on supporting the client by coordinating and progressing action close out on a number of HAZID/HAZOP actions raised across multiple live projects.
The Senior Project Engineer must be proactive, and have a well-rounded understanding of project engineer delivery with respect to action close out during detailed design and construction phases. It is expected the Senior Project Engineer should be able to guide the client in on approach to safety reviews on new capital projects.
This role will also work closely with a multi-disciplined engineering teams consisting of both Wood and client engineers alongside external designers, equipment vendors, and skilled contractors to deliver projects from Concept, through Scheme (FEED), Detailed Design, and Construction. The role will require you to be flexible in your day to day activities.
Job Duties/Responsibilities :
The responsibilities for this role can vary considerably depending on scope and size of project. Below is a list of the core responsibilities for this role for which prior experience is essential.

  • Application of client health and safety standards within the working environment and in the design process
  • Ability to maintain safe working practices through all stages of a project with a focus on the assessment and mitigation of safety issues through design
  • Working in/leading multi-discipline teams delivering work packages in accordance with the requirements of quality and environmental management systems qualified to ISO standards
  • Application of pressure systems and ability to assist client when required
  • Be able to manage work scope and interfaces between all engineering disciplines to ensure the successful delivery of assigned work packages
  • Ability to review vendor documents and identify any problem areas
  • Evidence of experience of management of change
  • Active management of plant changes in a controlled and safe way
  • Understanding of what GMP, GDP and ALCOA are
  • Monitoring and reviewing engineering progress with Project Services and Engineering disciplines
  • Ability to be a focal point for discipline leads for multi-discipline issues that require expediting or resolution
  • Experience organising, attending, and preparing reports for safety reviews and other multidiscipline meetings

Skills / Qualifications
Essential:
  • Engineering degree in a relevant subject such as Chemical, Mechanical, or Design/Technical Safety Engineering
  • Relevant experience working with a home office design team
  • Can demonstrate relevant project engineering experience
  • Relevant work experience, pharmaceutical or food and beverage experience would be an advantage

Desirable:
  • Chartered Engineer
  • Awareness of process operations and/or brownfield modifications
