Job Description

Medical and Scientific credibility is the foundation. It’s the core of who and what Flo is.

As a group, these teams engage thought leaders and KOLs (120+ and counting!), establish research partnerships (Stanford University, Johns Hopkins University, Northwestern University, and others), help Developers design our intuitive AI tools, check our Medical Accuracy, and drive medical credibility across the whole platform.

We’re seeking a Senior Research Scientist with expertise in Health Economics and Outcomes Research (HEOR) to join our Science team of four. Whilst the focus is on adding HEOR expertise to the team, we’re particularly interested to speak with applicants who are interested in a role with a broader remit than just HEOR alone.

Primarily, you’ll help quantify the real-world value of the Flo app as a digital intervention for women’s health. Your expertise will be directed in executing various research methods to show the value and return on investment of using the app, and your research evidence and compiled internal data will be crucial in informing product and business proposals.

As our Sr Research Scientist, you’ll be a subject matter expert with the opportunity to publish in peer-reviewed journals within a market leading HealthTech organisation.

Your Experience

Must have:

  • PhD qualified in a health related field. Areas of study could relate to: health economics/HEOR, health policy, public policy, healthcare management, public health, public administration, health services research, epidemiology, biostatistics, reproductive medicine, or a closely related field;
  • Strong research experience covering health economic studies;
  • 3+ years of experience in conducting digital health and outcomes-based performance research in an industry settings, such as a start-up, health consulting/health insurance, or health-technology company with cross-functional teams;
  • Advanced training and experience with research methods, study design, and statistics (e.g., propensity score matching, modelling, sensitivity analysis etc);
  • Ability to generate datasets using queries, conduct statistical analyses, and maintain documentation using common statistical languages and packages (e.g., R, SQL, Python);
  • Proven experience publishing health economics research, including peer-reviewed publications.

Nice to have:

  • Former experience working in a Women’s Health field;
  • Strong understanding of the payer environment in the United States, including knowledge of women’s health care coverage, claims, groupers, reimbursement, pricing, value drivers, and health policy;
  • Understanding of health tech product and medical device development cycle, including the role of HEOR, is preferred but not required.

What you'll be doing

You'll be responsible for:

  • Helping to develop the 2024-2025 scientific strategy by enhancing the focus on the health economic impacts of the Flo app for Women’s Health;
  • Leading health economics and outcomes research (HEOR) projects to quantify the real-world value of the Flo app as a digital health intervention for women’s health. This includes, but is not limited to, helping build health economics research strategy and pipelines, developing study protocols, and statistical analysis plans, building models, analysing data, interpreting results, and creating summary findings and product improvement strategies. Project types may include economic modelling, literature reviews, evidence gap assessments, and similar themes;
  • Expanding the Scientific Advisory Board by building a network of health economics research experts;
  • Helping in execution of other scientific studies that contributes to the evidence for Flo as a medically and scientifically credible tool;
  • Writing research papers for publication in international peer-reviewed medical or scientific journals;
  • Preparing summary finding reports and presentations for internal Flo teams and external channels, including the website, social media, magazines, and conferences.

You'll be targeted on:

  • Contribute at least two research directions for the 2024-2025 scientific strategy, focusing on the health economic benefits of the Flo app for Women’s Health;
  • Produce a minimum of two scientific publications within the next 12 months focusing on the assessment of the health economic impact of the Flo App on Women's Health Outcomes;
  • Increase Scientific Advisory board with health economic experts by 30% in the next 12 months.
