The Asset Management function within Altrad Babcock is a highly specialised engineering services and equipment provider supporting customers to minimise cost, maximise return and mitigate risk through their asset integrity lifecycle. We are recruiting exceptional candidates to join our mission in becoming a fully certified Asset Management engineering services provider of both consultancy and integrated projects, across future global low carbon energy and infrastructure markets.

The Static Engineering team within the Asset Management business sector provides consultancy services primarily in the power generation industry including thermal, nuclear and renewables, together with process, oil & gas, petrochemical and the newly emerging fusion energy research sectors, primarily in the field of integrity engineering. Within this function we have an opportunity for a Senior Project Engineer to join us in Renfrew.


Profile


Roles at this level typically lead and execute engineering tasks related to the provision of quality & timely proposals and contract engineering analysis, for project delivery to meet the needs of internal/external Altrad Babcock customers. Work is executed via the management of allotted tasks to quality, time and cost related to a specific project or portfolio of projects. Competence is developed through performing analysis and engineering tasks inclusive of project co-ordination, potentially across multiple engineering disciplines. The role-holder will advise clients predominantly on integrity related scenarios, typically using a broad range of industry codes and guidelines to solve routine or complex problems. Work can be executed in a specific or narrow field or across a broader range of disciplines, working either somewhat in isolation or as part of a project team, though all work is subject to review and approval according to company procedures. The role holder requires relevant industry experience and a working knowledge of standard principles, theories and practices in relevant engineering discipline(s) and should, have demonstrable experience of project management. They represent a greater theoretical and practical understanding, knowledge and ability to develop solutions to unique engineering problems than those roles at the level below.


Role & Responsibilities


Execution: Use company and industry discipline codes, standards and working practices in order to deliver and coordinate engineering project tasks, in compliance with Business Operating Procedures (BOPs) and Work Instructions (WIs). Provide support as required to engineers within the team of varying experience levels as required, in the provision of quality and timely technical input which will enhance profitable project delivery.


Governance: Comply with national laws/regulations and adhere to company-wide & functional BOPs and WIs to act in line with standardised working practices and ensure best practice.


Innovation: Look for opportunities for efficiency savings and development as well as contributing to project reviews/lessons learned to promote a culture of continuous improvement.


Communication: Build and maintain an internal and external (client) relationship network in order to leverage expertise, contribute to decision making and satisfy stakeholder requirements.


Teamwork: Support team members with project tasks, share knowledge and experience and work collaboratively with colleagues across the business, with strategic partners and, ultimately with our clients.


People Development: Take accountability for their own personal development record as part of Altrad Babcock’s talent management ethos. Mentor and provide guidance to more junior members of staff related to technical execution of their roles to support the development of the next level of talent within the organisation.


Job Requirement

  • Degree qualified in Mechanical Engineering or a related subject with significant related professional experience and, demonstrable capability according to the typical duties listed.
  • Sufficient and appropriate experience in core Mechanical Engineering theory and practice.
  • Knowledge and application of Business Operating Procedures appropriate to allotted tasks and associated documentation.
  • Knowledge and application of the requirements of UK/EU (or equivalent in-country) Laws and Regulations applicable to services and products associated with Competency(s).
  • Experience of owning /managing support processes in a project management environment.
  • Knowledge and understanding of Project Management theories, methodologies, processes and procedures.


Typical Duties:

  • Pressure vessel and pressure-part design & assessment.
  • Investigations into pipework & structural integrity problems.
  • Pipe stress analysis to ASME B31.X.
  • Fitness-for-Service assessments to API-579.
  • Fracture mechanics assessments to BS7910.
  • Analysing & quantifying damage mechanisms in plant components such as creep & fatigue.
  • Generating technical proposals and estimates.
  • Mentoring and providing technical leadership to junior engineers.


Project Management, demonstrating cost control and understanding of all commercial aspects of project control.


The Senior Project Engineer will be a qualified Mechanical Engineer with a working knowledge of some of the tools used to assess problems in the fields of structural integrity (some experience with pressure equipment design is advantageous) and the motivation to deepen their knowledge. They will be experienced in office and site work, ideally come from a similar technical role within a relevant industry sector. It is likely they will be Chartered and have a ten or more years of relevant industry experience, but consideration will be given to exceptional candidates who are demonstrably capable, but do not meet both these criteria.


Candidates with knowledge of relevant industry standards such as API-579, BS7910, ASME B31.X, PD5500 and experience using ANSYS Mechanical will have a distinct advantage.
