Job Description

Job Title: Lead Teacher of Maths Job Location: Petherton Park School, North Petherton (TA6) 00 based on working 40 hours per week, 39.Contract Type: Permanent Come and make Maths Fun! This is your chance to inspire children to love math! As a Lead Teacher of Maths at Petherton Park, you’ll have the opportunity to lead, manage and develop tailored maths curriculums for our pupils. At Petherton Park we take an individual approach to each pupils learning based on their own needs, goals, strengths, and aspirations. You’ll have the chance to promote maths in a positive way across the school. Not just through teaching but through fun inspiring learning, such as Maths Bingo or Shape Treasure Hunts! This is your chance to be creative and make learning fun. We have some incredibly talented pupils who have a real passion for numbers, like you do! You’ll also have the chance to create inspirational ways to make maths enjoyable for those who may not enjoy the subject as much through small groups or 1:1 sessions. As we are a small school, you’ll need to teach other subjects as part of your daily routine. Typically, classes are made up of four pupils, so you’ll have the chance to really get to know the pupils you support and connect with them. You’ll work with neurodiverse children and young people (Aged between 7 - 16) that have additional needs related to communication and interaction, cognition, and learning, sensory and/or physical. Some pupils may have social and emotional challenges, working with them to develop transferable life skills is essential for their transition into adulthood. A day in the life of a Lead Teacher of Maths will involve: Leading classroom activities including planning, teaching and assessing learning, particularly with ‘your’ class. Monitoring and recording progress, both academically and against EHCP outcomes Working closely with pupils keeping them engaged, motivated and inspired to reach their full potential. Working either 1:1 with pupils, or in small group settings to help them achieve their learning goals. Working closely with Teaching Assistants to direct them to effectively support the pupils. Supporting team members with delivery of maths across the school, and having oversight of the subject as a whole To be a successful Lead Teacher of Maths, you’ll need: An ability to teach maths to Level 2 (GCSE/Functional Skills) Patience, compassion, and resilience – The pupils you teach will be neurodiverse, which can impact their learning behaviour and communication needs.
