Senior Technical & Product Development Manager 


  • Salary: £38,000 – £48,000
  • Location: Mathmos Lava Lamp Factory (not hybrid)
  • Hours: Full-Time
  • Start Date: ASAP


This is a fantastic opportunity to play an important role within a small but prominent and growing lighting company with excellent prospects for career advancement. A varied role covering new product development and design engineering to compliance, testing and quality.

You will need at least 5 years of experience in a similar role within a company making electrical products. A relevant degree. Good computer skills and a can-do commercial attitude.


New Product Development 

  • Manage projects for new product and product upgrade projects using company software.
  • Work on the design engineering of both new and current products.
  • Manage external designers, consultants and suppliers, setting briefs and budgets.
  • Work with the team to bring products on time, on budget and to the agreed quality.
  • Help identify opportunities for expanding the company’s product offering.
  • Play a supporting role on the commercial side of new product development, including costs, quality, timing, and choice of manufacturer.


Certification, Standards & Testing

  • Remain current with all changing legislation that affects the company’s products.
  • Work with the team to ensure that all products comply with the current and forthcoming legal regulations.
  • Work with Nemko, the lighting association, UL and other bodies to ensure compliance.
  • Set, manage & complete test programs.
  • Manage the technical files for all products.


Product Quality 

  • Help to ensure that the manufacturers producing for Mathmos achieve the highest quality standards appropriate for a premium brand.
  • Issue AQLs, manage inspection companies, and put goods inward inspection procedures in place.
  • Monitor recorded faults and complaints and issue reports as required.
  • Work to continuously improve product quality across the range.


Other tasks 

  • Work with the production team to optimise and understand the in-house production processes.
  • To deputise and cover for colleagues as required in a small team.
  • Working closely with the MD to obtain patents and design registrations where required on new products.
  • Maintain a register of current Intellectual Property Assets.
