Role: Senior Test Engineer – UK Defence

Location: Bedfordshire

Salary: £60,000 D.O.E

About the Role: Join our dynamic team as a Military Vehicle Test Engineer, where you will collaborate closely with customers on vehicle-based military tests. This role involves managing customer programs across various testing disciplines, including powertrain, climatic, component, and full vehicle dynamic tests. You'll play a crucial part in validating and supporting military vehicles for the UK MoD and OE manufacturers using our unique facilities.


Key Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and supervise test activities within a team of engineers and technicians.
  • Create and update project timing plans to ensure deadlines are met.
  • Liaise with customers and test authorities to meet specific test requirements.
  • Communicate effectively with various departments and off-site facilities to plan and organize tests.
  • Report test results and anomalies promptly.
  • Continuously improve existing processes, procedures, and equipment.
  • Provide off-site support when necessary and develop new test techniques.
  • Write detailed test reports and support customers in resolving issues.
  • Conduct risk assessments and ensure compliance with health and safety standards.
  • Maintain a working environment in line with health and safety regulations.


Qualifications and Experience:


Essential:

  • Experience in vehicle testing and general data acquisition.
  • Knowledge of sensor types, electronics, circuitry, and vehicle mechanical systems.
  • Educated to degree level or equivalent in a relevant engineering discipline.
  • Full UK driver's license.
  • Willingness to undergo a Criminal Disclosure check and obtain security clearance (SC).


Desirable:

  • Knowledge of military vehicle standards and regulations.
  • Project management experience.
  • Comparative vehicle assessment and benchmarking.
  • Understanding of vehicle network and communication systems (e.g., CAN).
  • Chartered Engineer status or working towards it.
  • Additional driving categories (HGV, PSV).

  • Strong engineering background with a willingness to learn.
  • Confident in customer interactions and a team player.
  • Proficient in MS Office and solid verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills.
  • Strong organizational, analytical, and problem-solving abilities.
  • Understanding of safety and environmental management processes.
