Role Description

This is an exciting opportunity to progress your career as a Senior Construction Underwriter within Engineering Construction and Power at Allianz Insurance. As an integral member of the existing business Northern Regional team, your focus will be on profitable growth and technical excellence to deliver a world class, multi-niche insurance service. 

Underwriters are the first point of contact for all customers of the Engineering, Construction and Power Division. To work as part of this successful and dynamic branch, you will be customer focussed with an excellent knowledge of the Property and Casualty Market and be team oriented in order to deliver an excellent customer journey.


Your main role is to meet all business targets in relation to Construction products for the Northern region. The servicing of Broker and Client accounts within your own panel and ensuring you underwrite within defined parameters in a consistent and profitable manner.

In addition to the above and as part of your role, you will also have the opportunity to shape the future of the team through the training and development of underwriters. Your role will be varied and hands on with a variety of work including assisting with account management and reporting. You will also be accountable for engaging fully in the cross sell culture in EC&P Manchester, collaborating with your colleagues in other departments to support our ambitious growth plans.

About You

On a daily basis, you'll ensure customer satisfaction by building rapport and provide excellent service to external and internal customers and in the long term to ensure customer business growth and retention. You will be responsible for the delivery of profit and growth within the region via:

  • Personal delivery of KPIs
  • Involvement in process improvement initiatives and the delivery of strategic objectives
  • Demonstrating consistently high standards of behaviour across all elements of the role
  • Ensuring the Region operates strictly within the parameters of Allianz Standards of Underwriting
  • Underwrite existing business and mid-term adjustments including analysis and compilation of data for referral.
  • Negotiate within authority and referring where appropriate to maximise customer growth including persuading, influencing and convincing customers of the benefits of an opposed course of action.
  • Anticipate likely objections and build effective responses

Skills & Experience:

You will be able to demonstrate :-

  • Outstanding technical underwriting skills in Commercial Property and Casualty with Senior Underwriting Authority.
  • Excellent trading skills and a confident negotiator. Proven experience in handling large cases and the ability to demonstrate established broker relationships
  • Achievement orientated, able to organise own workload to meet tight deadlines and with a positive attitude.
  • A good team player. Supportive to others with an enthusiastic and positive attitude.
  • Confident and engaging communication skills with the ability to challenge and influence others.
    Practical knowledge of MS Office and MS Outlook
    A n excellent understanding of common forms of Reinsurance and EML calculation.
    ACII qualified or progress towards
  • A discount up to 50% on a range of insurance products including car, home and pet
