Senior Ventilation Design Engineer

Location: Aldermaston, Berkshire

Package: £46,250 - £65,000 (depending on your suitability and level of experience)

Opportunities exist for candidates from either a Ventilation Engineering, or a general background in Building Services (HVAC) who preferability has experience in the through life aspects of ventilation systems including design, testing and operations, and have worked within a regulated industry.

Successful Candidates will be responsible for:

  • Producing and reviewing engineering design solutions which fully comply with all AWE and UK legal requirements together with AWE business case needs

  • Co-ordinating and undertaking comprehensive 'end to end' inspections and assessments of key and complex ventilation systems in nuclear, other hazardous and conventional facilities.

  • Providing technical support to facility personnel with regard to design, operational requirements and issues.

  • Supporting a program of improvements to ensure the AWE continues to meet relevant good practice (RGP) in all matters relating to nuclear ventilation and filtration.

  • Contributing to integrated safety when reviewing engineering designs and ensure that all technical and design risks are identified and appropriately managed to meet project requirements and the letter and intent of the CDM Regulations, including discharging the designer's role

Whilst not to be considered a check list, candidates should be able to demonstrate some of the following:

  • An understanding of the design process to deliver either Conventional or Nuclear facilities, their Ventilation/ Building Services (HVAC) and associated equipment.

  • Previous design lead experience of multiple or discrete engineering packages of works that provide a design solution to a set of requirements in either the Conventional or Nuclear industries

  • Good technical and management skills including problem solving and decision making

  • Good oral, written and presentational skills with a particular aptitude for report, documentation and letter writing

  • Good interpersonal and communication skills to ensure effective communication to all levels to both internal and external personnel

Ideally, we would expect candidates to have an HNC/ Degree or equivalent qualification in a science or engineering discipline or equivalent vocational qualification.

Candidates must be willing and able to obtain and maintain the security clearance required for the role and be willing and able to travel within the UK and overseas as required (if applicable) once restrictions are lifted.
