Job Description

We are working with a market-leading alternative legal service provider, who is looking to speak with shipping lawyers who would be available for a 3-6 month contract with a leading Energy company based in London. This role is to start ASAP, so candidates should be available immediately or at short notice.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate an in-depth understanding of the main legal areas relevant to shipping and maritime law, including working knowledge of charterparties, vessel management agreements, bills of lading, cargo claims, demurrage and issues arising in the context of oil spill response.

Any recent litigation experience in the above areas is desirable, although transactional lawyers with a ship finance background will also be considered.

Candidates must also be able to draft with an appropriate understanding and interpretation of commercial intentions.

This role will be well suited to a self-motivated and self-directed individual who is able to prioritise workload and work independently as well as a member of a team.

Successful candidates should be able to demonstrate:

  • Qualification as a Solicitor in England & Wales, or another commonwealth jurisdiction (such as Australia or New Zealand, for example)
  • Possess ideally between 3-5 years’ PQE – candidates outside this bracket with relevant experience will also be considered
  • A wealth of shipping law experience
  • Exemplary attention to detail
  • Excellent drafting skills along with strong communication skills
  • The ability to work independently as well as part of a team
  • The ability to start a new role immediately or at short notice
