Job Description

Do you dream of a supportive team, great work-life balance, and epic outdoor adventures in one of the UK's happiest places? Look no further—Bodrwnsiwn Vets might be the perfect practice for you!

We are looking for a purely small animal vet with some experience to join our well-established 15-vet mixed practice on the beautiful Isle of Anglesey. This area was recently voted one of the happiest places to live in the Rightmove Happy at Home Index 2023. The role will be based at our purpose-built practice in Mona, where we have exciting plans to extend the clinical facilities, including a second operating theatre with a dedicated recovery room and a brand-new imaging suite. Our farm team are also based in Mona, with facilities for some in-practice treatment. We also have three branches: one in Amlwch, one in Menai Bridge, and one in Bangor, which is also where our equine vets are based.

The Team

We’re a supportive team that enjoys working together to provide the best care for our patients and each other. We all have our own areas of interest and are happy to share our knowledge and experience, so there’s always someone to bounce ideas with. Of our 5 small animal vets, Emma, one of our Clinical Directors, holds an anaesthesia certificate, and Kayleigh is studying towards her small animal medicine certificate. We have the caseload to support someone completing a surgical certificate or with an orthopaedic bias. We would also love to expand our services to offer laparoscopic surgery and would be happy to support any necessary CPD courses and invest in the kit if this is something that interests you. There aren’t many cases we need to refer, but should we need to, we are very lucky to have the support of the specialist team at Movement Referrals and the Grange Veterinary Hospital in Mold. We also benefit from the services of Rachel James, an RCVS Recognised Specialist in Veterinary Cardiology who visits the practice to assist with our more complex cardiac cases.

Our fantastic nursing and admin teams support us, keeping everything running smoothly and helping us achieve the highest standards of care for our patients and clients. Our wonderful practice manager, Clare, is our ‘rock’; she is always there to look after us, listen if we want to chat about anything, provide invaluable support, and do our shopping (but that’s another story!).

“Bod is a mixed practice with every vet filling a role individually suited to them, whether it's a species-specific preference, flexible working hours, or a particular clinical interest. The practice has always done a fantastic job of accommodating all of us, and it's just one of the things I've been extremely grateful for since I started here as a new grad. This makes for a great team dynamic that allows us to work together to meet the requirements of a busy mixed practice whilst knowing the team and practice make a healthy balance a priority.” Howie MRCVS

“I joined Bodrwnsiwn as a new grad in 2022. We are a close-knit, friendly, enthusiastic team with a mix of experienced and newly qualified vets and a fantastic team of nurses and support staff. The highly supportive environment has enabled me to develop and gain confidence in my skills and given me the opportunity to explore various clinical interests. It’s such a pleasure to work in North Wales, blessed with beautiful beaches and the spectacular Eryri National Park. I wouldn’t dream of working anywhere else!” Rhiannon MRCVS

“We are a friendly team of experienced and newly qualified vets with a supportive team of nurses and receptionists. Bodrwnsiwn has provided plenty of learning opportunities with lots of help and backup when needed, which was lacking in my previous employment. The area is a fantastic place to live with a great choice of outdoor activities.” Mari MRCVS

The Rota

Our full-time vets work a 4-day week, and for three out of the four, we finish at 5 pm. We’re flexible with the rota and are more than happy to chat about a rota that works for you. We have dedicated operating days and time built in for admin and making phone calls. We also stop each day for an hour at 1 pm so everyone has time to have a proper lunch break.

We provide our own out-of-hours, but please don’t let this be a deal breaker, as we’re open to chatting about it. With this role, you would only need to deal with the smallies, as we generally have three vets on-call, which also means you always have support if needed. We also have dedicated day and night nurses to treat our in-patients, and an answering service takes our calls, so you will only be called in when it’s really needed. Our on-call rota is just one night per week and 1:4 weekends. Following your weekend, you will then have an additional day off, making it a 3-day week.

Outside of Work

We genuinely get on well together, and there is always something to get involved in as a team—from social lunches in the practice made by one of our fantastic clients, a caterer, to Easter egg, paddle boarding, boat trips, and a New Year’s Day swim followed by a cracking meal at the pub.

Anglesey is a great place to live and work. There is so much to do and see, and for someone who loves outdoor adventures, this is paradise. We have 130 miles of coastline to explore within a designated Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB), and there are plenty of water sports like paddle-boarding, kayaking, and canoeing, to name a few. If you prefer the mountains and walking, there are miles of hiking trails to explore. It’s also great for foodies, with fantastic pubs and restaurants serving fresh, local ingredients with seafood straight from the boat.

What we are offering:

  • Salary of £45,000 - £60,000
  • 6.5 weeks holiday, including bank holidays
  • Certificates funded and supported
  • Temporary accommodation is available if relocating
  • Holiday buy-back scheme
  • Visa sponsorship available
  • Health Shield cash plan
  • Access to an Employee Assistance Programme
  • Cycle to work scheme
  • Enhanced maternity, paternity, adoption, shared parental leave and surrogacy pay
  • Company sick pay

Please call us for an informal chat, or if this sounds like the role you’ve been searching for, apply now!
