Race Equality First is an independent charity and race equality council based in Cardiff, Wales. We provide free, confidential advice and support to victims of hate crime, discrimination, and harassment. Our services include offering advice, training, and information related to equality and diversity, as well as delivering projects and campaigns to promote equality and remove barriers for black & ethnic minority individuals.


Role Description

This is a full-time hybrid role for a Social Media & Digital Content Officer based in Cardiff with flexibility for remote work. The Officer will be responsible for managing social media platforms, creating engaging digital content, implementing social media marketing strategies, and overseeing web content writing and management.


Job Title:                 Social Media & Digital Content Officer            

Location:                 Cardiff & Home-based (hybrid)

Salary:                     £30,000 per annum (plus 3% pension)

Hours:                      Full Time (37 hours p/wk)

Holidays:                  28 Days per annum


Purpose of Job: 

To assist the Marketing Manager and create, manage, optimise and disseminate multimedia content via all our social media channels, ensuring that all digital content is up to date, accurate and engaging, promoting our work and objectives whilst ensuring we are protected from reputational damage.


MAIN DUTIES

Leading Race Equality First’s Social Media

  • Under the management of the Marketing Manager, manage, develop and grow Race Equality First’s social media channels, including community management and maximising engagement across channels.
  • With the Marketing Manager, plan, develop and schedule social media content in line with our content planning cycle.
  • Proactively develop new content ideas that amplify activity happening across the Organisation and tap into relevant conversations (e.g. Hate Crime Awareness Week).
  • Monitor social channels for reactive engagement opportunities and flag any reputational risks emerging on social media.
  • Work with the Marketing Manager to develop the social media strategy and plan, including KPIs, ensuring it meets our content strategy objectives.
  • Proactively stay ahead of social media trends and ensure our social media channels are effectively developed and maintained.
  • Proactively stay aware of current political and social justice issues relevant to REF’s work. 

·       Ensure that existing digital content is up to date, accurate and engaging, promoting our work and objectives through social and digital channels whilst protecting us from reputational damage. 


Content Creation

  • Create written content around racial equality and social justice issues.
  • Create image, text and video content for all our social media channels.
  • Confidently plan & create video content to garner maximum engagement for the appropriate REF social media channel.
  • Film content and edit into engaging and informative content which conveys the key message in an accessible way.
  • Where required and agreed with the Marketing Manager, commission and manage agencies to produce digital content as required, including animations, photography and video.


Tone of Voice 

  • Become an expert in the REF tone of voice, so the content you create conveys the message appropriately whilst creating maximum impact without offence.
  • Support the Marketing Manager in embedding the tone of voice across REF’s communication channels, including our website, flyers, infographics and any other marketing materials produced for the Organisation.


Other duties

1.      Transcribing interviews and assisting with other duties for the South Asia to South Wales Project

2.      Refer beneficiaries to an appropriate staff member at REF where additional support for matters not related to social media or marketing is required.

3.      Undertake all administrative duties relevant to the post.

4.      Work out of office hours when necessary.

5.      Attend regular supervision meetings with the Marketing Manager

6.      Undertake any other duties that the Marketing Manager or CEO may reasonably request.
