Software Development Engineer III - Platform Engineering

Expedia Group is seeking a motivated engineer with a passion for technology, problem solving, and out-of-the-box thinking to be part of our Runtime Orchestration Team. Our team is responsible for building a container platform to enable our developers to rapidly deploy and scale containerized workloads in hybrid and multi cloud.
As a Software Development Engineer, you will be part of an agile development team with lots of Linux, cloud, and containerization experience. We have a skilled and hard-working multi-functional team. We work in a fast-paced environment and on highly visible projects.
What you’ll do
- Conceptualize, design, develop, document and manage a platform with multiple clusters
- Designing and implementing Orchestration tools/systems to scale and automate operations tasks
- Designing and developing new platform features
- Architecting a platform for all environments in multi-cloud
- Configuring and improving resiliency of our service mesh solution with ingress controller using Istio
- Orchestrating multi-cloud and on-premise resources using tools such as Terraform, ArgoCD and KubeFed
- Observability, capacity planning, system and service performance analysis and tuning
- Continuous Delivery - Automation of application deployments, detect and repair problems in deployments
- Support DevOps operations by integrating developed Infrastructure as code into CICD pipeline builds
- Debugging production and pre-production environments
- Ability to explore/use a wide variety of technologies and tools
- Take ownership of high stress scenarios by remaining calm, employing critical thinking and data driven decision-making practices
- Conduct on-call duties and be a part of the rotation
Who you are:
- Bachelor’s or Master’s degree, or related technical field, or equivalent practical experience.
- Exposure to infrastructure automation, configuration management or container orchestration
- Demonstrated working experience building, deploying and running software in large scale containerised environments
- Working experience in Site Reliability engineering
- Strong development, design, and testing skills in one or more of: Go, Python, Rust or Ruby
- Strong understanding of Object-Oriented Programming concepts, data structure, algorithms, and system level programming
- Experience in cloud computing and Amazon Web Services (AWS)
- Experience in Docker, Kubernetes/EKS and their APIs, and CLI tooling
- Experience in configuration tools like Chef, Ansible, Puppet etc.
- Experience working with Unix/Linux systems is a plus
- Exposure with Continuous Integration tools (Jenkins or similar)
- Detailed problem-solving approach coupled with a strong sense of ownership and drive.
- Demonstrates the ability to select among technology available to implement and solve for need
- Able to understand and design moderately complex systems
- Understanding of testing and monitoring tools
- Ability to troubleshoot and debug applications and system components
- Understanding of Agile, Scrum, Kanban or other development processes and methodologies
