Would you like to join a diverse team managing the tools, from concept through to delivery, which enable the successful execution of campaigns in the world leading Orion plasma physics experimental laser facility? AWE has opportunities for experienced Software Engineers to join our team working in our Orion Laser Facility. These roles offer excellent career progression opportunities!

Package: £27,960 - £50,000 per annum

Location: Reading

Closing Date: 03rd June 2024

The Role?

As a Software Engineer, your main responsibilities will include:

  • Creating Software control for laser diagnostic instruments and devices
  • Writing software that controls sub-systems via HMI's
  • Supporting the Orion laser team with any software issues
  • Writing technical documentation to meet customer requirements, as required
  • Ensuring high quality of the work you deliver
  • Accountable for the safety of all aspects of work you carry out

Whilst not considered a checklist, candidates would benefit from having the following:

  • An ONC/HNC in an engineering discipline or equivalent experience
  • At least one Software programming system / language, preferably using one of these packages :
    - Labview,
    - C(any variation),
    - VBA,
    - Python,
    - Java,
    - Any SCADA packages
  • Experience of project life cycles and configuration control
  • Professional membership or registration preferred, or a willingness to work towards professional registration
  • Ability to work as part of a team and individually
  • Willingness to learn other software languages including Labview
