Job Purpose:
Our client is seeking a highly motivated and experienced Solicitor to join our Legal Services team. The successful candidate will provide professional legal advice, assistance, and representation for a range of local government functions. This role involves undertaking legal casework, litigation, and advocacy.
Main Duties and Responsibilities:
- Manage a mixed caseload of litigation and provide legal advice.
- Represent the Client in court/tribunals, including case preparation and management.
- Offer comprehensive legal advice and services to the Client and its committees on local government matters.
- Draft and finalize legal documents.
- Deliver a responsive and cost-effective legal service.
- Adhere to customer care, health and safety, and equality policies.
- Stay current with government law and maintain professional development.
- Conduct training for staff and Council members as required.
- Continuously improve systems, processes, and services for best value.
- Maintain office procedures and provide necessary statistical and management information.
- Support, supervise, and cover for other staff, participate in appraisals, and contribute to the management of Legal Services.
- Perform other duties as required within the Legal Services.
Educational Standards/Qualifications:
- Qualified Solicitor or Barrister (Essential)
- Evidence of Continuing Professional Development (Essential)
Knowledge and Experience:
- Experience/knowledge in at least one of the following areas of law: Local Government, Child Care, Adult Care, Education, Prosecutions, Civil Litigation, Licensing
- Advocacy experience in Courts/Tribunals/Inquiries (Essential)
- Knowledge of litigation procedures (Essential)
