Our client is an award-winning law firm and on their behalf, we are looking to recruit a Solicitor or Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Legal Executives to join their Data Protection & Technology team.

This is a full-time opportunity working 9:00am-5:15pm Monday to Friday (part time will be considered). You will be based in the Exeter office with a hybrid working model and approach to flexible working enabling people to share their working time between home and office to support a healthy work- life balance.


The Role:


You will be a Solicitor/CILEX within a dynamic, growing Technology & Data Protection team, primarily focusing on data protection matters. Although based from the Exeter office, you will be working with colleagues across the offices and clients both in the UK and internationally. This is a rare opportunity to work within an award-wining technology focussed team. The team is responsible for a global portfolio of clients, offering pro-active advice on data protection and privacy matters, data security and information governance to a variety of organisations within public and private sectors. It is also well known for its focus on matters where technology and data protection issues overlap, including in connection with the development and adoption of emerging technologies. This is an incredibly rewarding opportunity suiting a candidate who is keen to develop their career as a technology lawyer with one of the southwest’s most successful teams in this specialist practice area.

The ideal candidate will be a lawyer with minimum of 2 years PQE experience in a technology or data focussed role. Experience in any of the following would be an advantage:



  • Matters involving UK GDPR, Data Protection Act 2018, Privacy of Electronic Communications Regulations, Freedom of Information Act 2000 and Environmental Information Regulations 2004
  • Operational compliance such as policy drafting, data transfer management, direct marketing and subject access rights management
  • Incident and crisis management such as security incident response, complaint investigation, co-operation with regulatory enquiries/investigations and breach assessment/reporting
  • Commercial advice and management such as the review, negotiation and drafting of commercial contracts including development, outsourcing, procurement contracts and frameworks

A technical awareness of IT development is not necessary, but desirable.


You will have attention to detail, excellent drafting and communication skills and have a natural ability to manage complex/highly sensitive matters in a calm, pragmatic manner. You will be confident in running your own case load, as well as supervising and assisting your fellow team members. You will have excellent interpersonal skills and a focus on exceptional client care.
