Find your future with us.DEEAMS Solution Architect Job DescriptionJob DescriptionBoeing’s Defence UK Digital Services & Analytics Function is responsible for delivering programmes of work that transform business operations and services across the UK defence and security sector.An opportunity has arisen for a Solution Architect to join BDUK’s pursuit of a major digital transformation programme within MOD’s Logistics and Engineering Support (L&ES) information systems environment.The Solution Architect is responsible for designing a business and technical vision for a Defence Equipment and Engineering Asset Management Systems (DEEAMS) and translating that into a deliverable solution for a multi domain, user-centric digital service.

This will involve replacement and/or change of a number of legacy applications and informal systems that deliver cloud focussed solution that meets the austere environmental constraints found in a deployed military context underpinned by common enabling services of the Defence Digital Backbone.This role will need to bring together a complex customer, supplier and internal stakeholder community to align to a common vision for the Business Modernisation for Support program (BMfS) that puts end user needs at the heart of the Defence Equipment and Engineering Asset Management System now and in the future.

This will be achieved through the introduction of new user engagement and delivery models that improve the pace and flexibility of business change that is underpinned by digital technologies.

Shaping internal change to existing ways of working within BDUK and aligning these to the MOD customer’s expectations will be a significant focus for this role.The job will be based in Bristol with limited UK travel expected.Responsibilities:Work with Enterprise Architects to develop a vision for MOD’s Defence Equipment and Engineering Asset Management System that is a user focussed solution and provides a value lead business information service.Provide business and technical architecture leadership to redesign and transform the Defence Equipment and Engineering Support Management Systems (DEEAMS) into a business information service vision and ensure all focus is on meeting the wide range of diverse end user needs.Shape the introduction of new technology delivery processes, leveraging Agile where possible, to bring user needs to the forefront of design decisions at all levels, whilst balancing the environmental constraints that need to be navigated aroundProvide assurance for the design and delivery of the overall DEEAMS solution, including the migration roadmap from the existing legacy systems.Lead on the integration of information, business and solution architecture, leveraging open standards, to enable interoperability, scalability and continuous solution evolution to meet end user needs.Leverage Boeing enterprise capability and best practices to enhance architecture practices, tools and knowledge of teams across regions.Lead on the identification, qualification and selection of COTS products and tooling that best meets end user needs whilst complying with environmental constraint and standardsEducation & Experience:A strong understanding of MOD’s technology environment including architecture, enterprise applications and their vision for a Digital Backbone.Experience of delivering digital transformation in UK Government departments and working with GDS is highly desirable, however experience of managing large, complex digital transformation into other sectors would also be valuable.Experience of leading solution delivery to drive business value is essential – experience including any of Big Data, IoT, Analytics, AI/ML, VR/AR technologies would be advantageous.  The successful candidate will be able to create a vision for how these technologies can transform the DEEAMS business processes to be more efficient, effective and resilient in the future.Experience of migrating customer’s towards an ITIL 4 service architecture utilising commons services with practical experience of Cloud technologies.

Highly knowledgeable of integrating COTS products to enable this solution approach to deliver the desired process improvements that enable business benefit realisation.Proven track record of introducing new (evergreen) technology architectures and implementation approaches into legacy environment such that they are capable of responding to the continuous evolution of user needs.Highly skilled in managing senior and technology customer relationships; building trust and developing insight that ensures buy in to the most appropriate technology solutionsHighly proficient in managing a complex internal, senior stakeholder landscape to ensure the correct level of buy in to solutions being proposed and capabilities that need to be developed.Proven track record of working in complex multi-supplier environments and managing stakeholder relationships with adjacent suppliers to ensure combined efforts achieve the best customer outcome, leveraging an approach based on open architecture and standardsExperienced in developing established technology teams to evolve new ways of working as well as identifying gaps in technology delivery capability and leading the recruitment of new teams to meet this need.

Proven track record in a wide range of delivery approaches, including Agile, Waterfall, DevSecOps etc.Proven track record in delivering and presenting complex cost / benefit analysis of different solutions options and securing diverse stakeholder commitment to recommendations.Experience of the Defence Logistics and Support environment from a business and technology perspective.

Knowledge and experience of the existing applications (UMMS, SCPM, JAMES & GoldESP) would also be advantageous.Boeing Defence UK (BDUK) is a subsidiary of the Boeing Company and currently employs over 1,400 people in the UK.
