Specialist Clinical Pharmacist ( with on-call )

Band 7 43,742 - 50,056 per annum, pro rata if part-time

Hours: 37.5 hours per week, all MKUH roles will be considered for flexible working

It is an exciting time to be joining Milton Keynes Hospital Pharmacy. We have had significant investment over the last few years in a fully refurbished Pharmacy department plus a state-of-the-art Aseptic Unit based within our new Cancer Centre. Research & Development is a key priority for the organisation and the Pharmacy Department. We also have a New Outpatient Pharmacy.

As a result of significant investment into our pharmacy team, we are looking for enthusiastic and highly motivated Specialist pharmacists to join our team and contribute to developing and delivering our services.

You will work closely with pharmacy colleagues and other healthcare staff to:
  • provide clinical pharmacy services across a variety of specialities.
  • support safe prescribing and medicines optimisation.
  • support medicines safety and quality improvement
  • provide medicines related advice to colleagues and patients.
  • support the safe and timely discharge of patients.
  • support clinical screening and accuracy checking within the dispensary.
  • Undertake audit, research and development of more junior team members

Your role would be to support the Divisional teams and Clinical Service Units in delivering a consistently high-quality patient care and pharmacy service across a variety of different specialties, on a rotational basis (normally 12 months).

Job responsibilities

  • You will be part of the pharmacy team and work with staff within the pharmacy department and across the trust to enable the objectives of the Trust to be achieved.
  • To contribute to the Trusts compliance with medicines safety and optimisation and RPS standards and the Clinical Governance and Risk Management agendas
  • To contribute to the development, delivery and evaluation of clinical pharmacy services provided to a range of clinical specialities.
  • To ensure that appropriate levels of service are provided in accordance with statutory requirements and professional standards as described in Medicines, Ethics and Practice issue by the Royal Pharmaceutical Society of Great Britain.
  • To assist the relevant managers and colleagues in the development and delivery of pharmacy services which reflect the needs of the Trust and our patients and commissioners.
  • To undertake projects that will improve the safety and clinical effectiveness of patient care and the patient experience and contribute to effective and appropriate drugs budget management within a range of clinical specialities.
  • To support the Divisional teams and Clinical Service Units in delivering a consistently high-quality patient care and pharmacy service across a variety of different specialties, on a rotational basis (normally 12 months).

Person Specification

Qualifications and knowledge

Essential

  • MPharm Degree (or equivalent)
  • Registered Pharmacist (GPhC)
  • Postgraduate Certificate in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)


Desirable

  • Evidence of ongoing CPD in line with GPhC requirements
  • Postgraduate Diploma in Clinical Pharmacy (or equivalent)
  • Member of RPS


Experience

Essential

  • Experience of Hospital Pharmacy Practice


Desirable

  • Evidence of broad clinical experience
  • Evidence of experience of Clinical Audit
  • Evidence of basic understanding of MI
  • Evidence of significant contribution to innovative or developmental roles and activities within pharmacy
