Job Description

An exciting opportunity has arisen for an enthusiastic and motivated 0.8WTE Specialist Psychologist or Accredited CBT Therapist to join Berkshire Healthcare Birth in Mind (BIM). As part of Maternal MH Services, BIM is a specialist service providing assessment and treatment for adults with Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) to their birth experience and/or severe Fear of Birth (medically referred to as tokophobia). Joining our dynamic and friendly team, you will work across BIM, contributing to both pathways.

The role is based at Erlegh House on the University of Reading White Knights Campus. The location has plenty of car parking, electric car charging, access to green spaces, shops and the University of Reading gym. We offer a blended model of delivery including face to face and online working from our well resourced clinic space or from home if appropriate.

Main duties of the job

As a valued member of our team, you will provide specialist assessments, formulations and evidence-based interventions, with individual and groups. You will be supported to develop clinical skills and expertise in other therapy modalities including EMDR.

You will have the opportunity to be involved in service improvement projects such as service user feedback forums and designing our specialist resources. We have a strong belief in evidence -

based practice and practice-based evidence, so you may also be able to undertake or supervise research, audit and service evaluation.

As part of your on-going development you may be able to supervise trainees and assistant psychologists, as appropriate. There may also be opportunities to be involved in consultation, liaison and training to multidisciplinary mental health staff, perinatal mental health services, third sector agencies and other, non-professional carers.

Job responsibilities

The must haves for you to be considered for this role:
  • 1.Holder of HCPC registered Clinical/Counselling Psychology qualification OR Post graduate qualification in CBT and BABCP accreditation OR Trainee Clinical/Counselling Psychologist with imminently pending qualification and HCPC registration on completion of degree.
  • Experience and a high level of enthusiasm for working with people with PTSD and/or a fear of birth.
  • Specialist skills in the delivery of evidence-based trauma therapy (eg TF-CBT) and a strong interest in fear of birth.

    Person Specification

    Education/Qualifications/Training

    Essential

    • Holder of an HCPC regulated Clinical/Counselling Psychology qualification OR Post graduate certificate in evidence based psychological treatments and BABCP accreditation


    Desirable

    • Psychology degree


    Continuous Professional Development

    Essential

    • Evidence of continuous professional development relevant to the current setting
    • Training in evidence-based psychological therapy for PTSD
    • Received training on assessment/management of risk and carried out risk assessments within scope of practice


    Previous Experience

    Essential

    • Evidence of working with people who have experienced common mental health problems, across the lifespan and from different cultures
    • Evidence of experience using evidence-based therapy (TF-CBT) when working with traumatised people including those with PTSD
    • Experience of working with people experiencing peri/post natal difficulties


    Desirable

    • Experience of working with C-PTSD
    • Experience of running therapeutic groups
    • Experience of working directly with birth trauma and/or Fear of Birth.
    • Experience of other models of trauma-focussed therapy including EMDR, NET and compassion-focussed therapy
    • Experience of designing and disseminating teaching and training
    • Evidence of providing specialist consultation and liaison with other services, including non-psychologists, third sector organisations, service users and carers
    • Experience of service development, research and service evaluation


    Knowledge, Skills & Abilities

    Essential

    • Excellent written communication skills
    • Evidence of specialist skills in treating PTSD and trauma related psychological distress within the NICE guidelines
    • Demonstrates an understanding of common mental health difficulties and social care needs
    • High level of enthusiasm and motivation for working with PTSD following Birth Trauma and Fear of Birth
    • Ability to manage own caseload and time


    Desirable

    • Demonstrates understanding of the specific needs of clients who have experienced a birth trauma and the impact this can have on postnatal mental health and on care-giver bonding
    • Evidence of specialist skills of working with people in the perinatal period, Birth Trauma and/or Fear of Birth
