Job Description

This is a replacement post following retirement for a Specialty Doctor Psychiatrist for Adults with Intellectual Disabilities within the Trust's Community Learning Disability Services. The post holder will provide medical input into the North Warwickshire Community Learning Disability Team (CLDT). The main role of the post holder is to provide diagnosis and treatment of adults with an intellectual disability and associated mental health and neurodevelopmental disorders.

Main duties of the job

Providing outpatient clinics and domiciliary visits, attending multi-disciplinary team meetings, attending community review meetings, attending Single Point of Entry review discussions, Mental Health Act work including assessments and report writing when needed.

As the post potentially involves assessments elsewhere it is desirable that the post holder have appropriate means of independent transport commensurate with the travelling required to fulfil the role. There is a Trust policy for remuneration if required for travel within the working day. The post holder is able to claim for business mileage and agreed mileage for training purposes.

Maintaining a full GMC registration with a license to practice along with being eligible to be Section 12 approved under the Mental Health Act is a requirement of the role. Doctors are expected to follow the professional rules and guidance as set out by the General Medical Council including Good Medical Practice and Maintaining High Professional Standards. In addition, psychiatrists will practice in accordance with the guidance from the Royal College of Psychiatrists.

Coventry and Warwickshire Partnership Trust provides Mental Health Services for a population of around 850,000 in the Coventry and Warwickshire area. In addition, the Trust provides Community Health services in the Coventry area, Intellectual disability psychiatric services in the Solihull area and some specialist psychiatric services to a larger regional and national population.

The Trust is a teaching Trust and services have an active involvement with Warwick University Medical School. The Trust provides placements for medical students in their community and mental health modules. Professionals working with the Trust contribute to the academic programme and strong links exist with the Academic Department of Psychiatry in the Medical School.

Qualifications
Essential

  • Full Registration with GMC
  • Eligible for inclusion on the section 12 register for the purposes of the Mental Health Act.

Experience
Essential

  • 4 years full time post graduate training (or equivalent in part time or flexible training).
  • 2 years specialty training in psychiatry

Skills and Knowledge
Essential

  • Ability to complete reports for purposes of the MHA, court and other agencies.
  • Up to date knowledge of clinical psychiatry
